Bikram Yoga is for every BODY.
Every type of body can practice Bikram Yoga no matter the shape, size, colour, gender or ability. Bikram says "Youโre never too old, never too bad, never too late and never too sick to start from scratch once again.โ
Whether you've been playing sports all your life or you've never played any sports in your life, whether you've been physically active or haven't had any experience in physical fitness, the genius sequence of the 26 postures and 2 breathing exercises will guide your mind and body through a moving meditation. You can start Bikram Yoga at any age and at any stage in your life. Your only job is to show up and do the best you can with the body that you have on that day and the yoga will take care of the rest. The biggest challenge is to show up. Then you have to remind yourself to breathe. Throughout the 90 minutes keep your eyes always open and breathing always normal; in the postures, out of the postures, during the postures and in between the postures. Progress slowly but surely by taking one breath at a time, one posture at a time, one class at a time. Practicing mindfully and with full awareness of exactly what you are doing will help you understand what this "yoga" is all about.
Bikram Yoga's number one priority is to heal. Building endurance, stamina and strength are secondary. A broken joint cannot be strong, it needs to heal first. Once it heals then it can work on strength and flexibility.
