Tuladandasana is the Sankskrit name for a yoga pose which in English is called Balancing Stick. Basically you balance on just one leg and stretch your entire body in equal and opposite directions like a natural human tug-of-war. "Your body should like a capital letter 'T' as in Tom, not a broken umberealla." - Bikram Dialogue. :)


The number of times I have been able to maintain a good balance in

side the hot room can be counted on one hand hahaha!!! I have improved this posture by challenging myself to do it at the craziest places ...


Ask me 'why?' :P


I will use my Guru's words, "Because, having doesn't mean anything if you don't know how to use it." - Bikram Choudhry. I knew that I knew how to balance but I just didn't know how to use it, so pushing myself to do this posture in the most unusual places made me improve, made me connect with my core, made me tap into the source of balancing and always makes me face fears, the fear of everything that might happen if I fell, be it from a diving board 10 meters high or from the corner of a railing at a mountain-view. A friend suggested I create a page where everyone could post their pictures of doing Tuladandasana anywhere and everywhere ... so here goes :)


Invite other yogis to 'Like' the page and join this global movement of embracing, developing and celebrating balance. Let's celebrate by encouraging balance in our practice, balance in our lives and balance all around the world. Post your pictures and your experiences, share them with other yogis around the world, ask questions, encourage friends and family to do the posture as well, have discussions with some amazing yoga instructors on this page and most importantly, have fun doing the posture :)

Bikram Yoga is for every BODY.

Every type of body can practice Bikram Yoga no matter the shape, size, colour, gender or ability. Bikram says "Youโ€™re never too old, never too bad, never too late and never too sick to start from scratch once again.โ€

Whether you've been playing sports all your life or you've never played any sports in your life, whether you've been physically active or haven't had any experience in physical fitness, the genius sequence of the 26 postures and 2 breathing exercises will guide your mind and body through a moving meditation. You can start Bikram Yoga at any age and at any stage in your life. Your only job is to show up and do the best you can with the body that you have on that day and the yoga will take care of the rest. The biggest challenge is to show up. Then you have to remind yourself to breathe. Throughout the 90 minutes keep your eyes always open and breathing always normal; in the postures, out of the postures, during the postures and in between the postures. Progress slowly but surely by taking one breath at a time, one posture at a time, one class at a time. Practicing mindfully and with full awareness of exactly what you are doing will help you understand what this "yoga" is all about.

Bikram Yoga's number one priority is to heal. Building endurance, stamina and strength are secondary. A broken joint cannot be strong, it needs to heal first. Once it heals then it can work on strength and flexibility.

The longest 10 seconds of your life ๐Ÿ˜

Balancing Stick posture cleans the chambers of the heart. It strengthens the heart muscle โค๏ธ Bikram says this is the best preventative medicine for the heart. In 10 seconds you almost give yourself a heart-attack with the equal and opposite stretching of the body which in result dumps all the fresh oxygenated blood into the heart. The natural human tug of war is for the extremities (your arms and leg) to stretch and extend so maximum blood gushes into the heart.

Bikram would also say this about Tuladandasana,

"Good things come in small packages." ๐Ÿ˜Š

This posture is a gift to your heart, to your posture, to your shoulders, to your spine. If done the right way, the gift/benefit of the posture is received by all the receiving parties together.

So stretch and stretch and stretch.
