🏏 ECL 2026 Match Summary 🏏

Today’s Elite Cricket League encounter between Okanagan Valley Cricket Club and Nelson Cricket Club took place at Centennial Park, Revelstoke BC. Nelson CC won the toss and invited OVCC to bat first.

OVCC got off to a strong start with a brilliant opening partnership of 93 runs. Rajiv Niroshan played a magnificent innings of 51 (56) while Ishan Kularatne anchored the innings with a composed 42 (82). After the solid start, the middle order struggled against the disciplined Nelson bowling attack led by Sambhav Jain (4 wickets) and Subu Gonella Visweswara (3 wickets).

However, OVCC’s lower order stepped up when it mattered most. Thejan De Zoysa 31 (41) and Duminda 12 (21) built a crucial 40-run partnership to push the total to 183/8 in 40 overs.

In reply, Nelson CC’s batting lineup collapsed under an outstanding bowling performance from OVCC. Nelson were bowled out for just 71 runs, giving OVCC a commanding 112-run victory.

🏅 Best Performance Award Medal goes to Asmitha Edirisinghe for a brilliant innings of 50 runs off 90 balls, including 6 beautiful boundaries, in the match between Okanagan Valley Cricket Club and Salmon Arm Cricket Club held on 2nd May at Salmon Arm Cricket Ground.

Tough one to take for OVCC.

After putting up 211 on the board, the boys gave it everything in the field, but unfortunately we fell short as Salmon Arm CC chased it down in 36.3 overs.

That said, this game leaves a very bitter feeling.

What we witnessed on the field was extremely disappointing and raises serious concerns about fairness and professionalism in the league. There were multiple questionable decisions throughout the match, including a caught-behind appeal and at least three clear LBW appeals that were not given.

Due to repeated concerns, we requested a change in umpiring position. However, even after moving to square leg, a no-ball was called on what was clearly a legitimate lower full toss. In another instance, a wide decision was reversed after being questioned. Situations like this create uncertainty and reflect inconsistency in officiating.

We respect the game and understand that not every appeal will go our way. But consistency and fairness are the foundation of cricket, and today that standard was not met.

At the end of the day, we play this beautiful game with passion and respect. Matches should be decided by performances, not by questionable decisions.

We move forward, stronger and more united. 💪
