SAVE THE DATE !!! Canada Day - there's gotta be something happening even if its a weird Long Wednesday. So Joe and friends are inviting the community to a Bonus Community Baseball event - kids at 11, adults at 1. plus Games, tug of war?, BBQ. Beergarden, DJ Pat and Iggy will getting us moving for Canada Day. Spontaneous outbreaks of O Canada anticipated. Cake.
Extra Weird Element - First ever Dryland Bail & Sail. Create a moveable boat-type object. Cardboard boxes, duct-taped water jugs, floaty flamingos to hold two plus passenger stuffy (pokemon, dinosaur, teddy). Life Jackets required.
Wishlist - Dog Walk? Judges needed - Best tail wag, best matching pair. etc
and can anyone do a Laser Light show alternative to Fireworks? We need you.

Joe King is looking for a maintenance person

Maintenance and Repair Responsibilities
• Regular check of all equipment including water systems, electrical fixtures, showers, taps, washing machines, windows, doors, locks.
• Weekly walk-about including miscellaneous cleanup and identification of repair needs
• Maintain list of projects “to be done” – research options and costs report needs to Board liaison – highlighting Urgent issues
• Undertake minor repairs, onsite where possible. Consult Board Liaison and call trades as necessary to arrange appropriate repair. Arrange transport if needed.
• Monitor water quality and quantity in cisterns, monitor pumphouse and take action if needed per Island Health reports
• Focus on maintaining safety. Replacement of broken boards on decks, ramps, railings. Replacement of batteries and lightbulbs
• Conduct regular rat-proofing measures.
• Hire casual labour as needed to complete tasks. (Over 4 hrs requires Liaison ok). Support trades and volunteers with access, materials,tools
• Organize Storage and Supplies in Utility Room and Storage Shed (Bivouac).
• Work effectively to support work of Custodian

$35-45/hr, est 10-20 hrs/mth. WCB covered.

These joes are So happy to have a new sound system for Joe King Clubhouse. They are bursting with love and song. We'll be getting them to work this week with Moonbeam and friends on Thursday . And more to come. Many many thanks to the CV regional district for a community arts and social grant funding this project. We have never spent a grant as quickly. Daniel Arbour

Dinner goes on the table close to six, once the. enough folks here so things don't get cold.

We are so looking forward to a summer of activity at Joe King Park. Events So Far -
June 6 – Bike ride and BBQ – Recreation Cttee, HIMBA and HIAA
June 11 – Moonbeam dance party (Joe King hosting)
June 26 – Mark Woodyard Hootenanny
July 3 - Track Meet – a band from Victoria
July 11 – Arlene and Friends do the 80’s to celebrate her 80th! – Talent Show and Sparkle
July 18 – Pete Martin Celebration of Life
July 24-28 – the New Old Time Chautauqua. Community Circus - Parade, Show, Food, Workshops.
AND MUCH more to come in AUGUST.
Of course, there will be the usual services to members, Washhouse, Disc Golf, pickle-ball, tennis, pumptrack. Baseball every Sunday – kids at 11, adults at 1. We are going to offer an expanded Concession – hotdogs, burgers, chips etc – stay tuned for details

As we undertake more activities at Joe King, we are looking for people to help at events - Serving-It-Right bartenders, security, Food service helpers for Jazz and other socials, and designated drivers. These tasks may include free admission or pay/tips. Amber, miracle though she is, cannot do it all herself, so please get in touch if you’d like to be part of Joe King Summer 26. [email protected]
