Meanwhile, I decided that my current gift knitting project is the perfect time to learn how to do ladder-back jacquard, to catch the long-ish floats and make sure little fingers don't get caught. I'm learning from this video:

The ladder back jacquard method is used in Fair Isle colorwork knitting to turn a series of long floats into a “ladder” of interlocking stitches on the back ...

I've been so busy the last few weeks, between guild stuff and other volunteer stuff and OMG, I need a break. I should have mentioned the Fasten Off YAL sooner, but I've been doing some volunteering there, as well. But you should check out the participating designers, and pick out a pattern or two (or three, or....) while the sale period is on!

https://www.facebook.com/FastenOffYAL

Join the Fasten Off YAL! We'll knit and/or crochet, support indie designers, chat, and generally have fun while we end off the year with our yarnie friends!

I'm actually a little teary this morning thinking about yesterday's KW Knitters' Fair. I spent my time there walking the Aud, looking at what the vendors had to offer, but, more importantly, watching knitters (and other crafters, for sure there were crocheters and spinners around). People were excited to find things they'd only seen on-line. Some had lists and knew exactly what they wanted for their next project (or projects). Some (like me) had a vague idea of something they wanted to make, and scouted the booths looking for just the right yarn to make that vague idea reality (in my case, two skeins of KidMoSilk from Crooked Kitchen Yarn that will be...an Orenburg....something. Oh, and some safety eyes from Chateau Bornais Crochet and stitch markers from . And a splurge on an out of print Japanese lace knitting book).

That sense of delight and excitement could only have happened with the hard work of the KWKG Fair Committee. For Jen, Jenn, Anne, and Bev, it's a labour of love. The love came through, folks, it really did. But it is labour -- a lot of hard work that totally paid off, and I'm so grateful we have folks like this in our guild. Well done, and now I hope you get some much needed relaxation and a bit of knitting/crocheting time!

Meet your Fair Committee!

L to R: Jen is our Fair Coordinator and Fearless Leader; Anne handles our Social Media; Jenn handles our finances and our handouts/floor plans; and Bev is our mighty Volunteer Coordinator. Look for us in our purple sashes if you need anything today!

I mentioned this in the meeting the other evening -- we really could use a couple of people to step up and volunteer for the yarn table and programming for the second half of the guild year. But you won't be left out on your own to figure it all out -- we'll always make sure you know what to do, how to do it, and we'll have your back if you need help. :-)

Ever wondered what it would be like to volunteer for the Guild? Well here is your chance! We are looking for a couple of folks to take over the Yarn Table and Programming for the second half of this Guild year.

Our wonderful Brooke has done an amazing job for the first half of the year and is happy to help make sure you and a friend will be successful if you think you would like to take over for the second half of the year.

The Yarn table is another opportunity to volunteer with the Guild.

We would love your help with these two positions.

Reach out to [email protected] to volunteer for either of these roles!

With Kitchener-Waterloo Knitters' Guild – I just got recognized as one of their top fans! 🎉

(Sharing because I'm amused at this -- because I've just taken over as the president of the guild, so hey, I really am a top fan!)

Vendor spotlight: Flying Squirrel Fine Yarns and Notions

We offer a curated selection of yarns and fibres sourced from Canadian and international farmers, mills, and indie dyers. We can't wait to see what she brings to the Fair, and what she does with her shop!

The fibre Advent Calendar is my One Splurge of the year. I save all my gift money (birthday, etc.) and spend it on this. It's actually really a good value for money, especially compared to other Advent Calendars I've looked at, drooled over, and walked away from because they are very spendy. Yes, the shipping for me is a killer, but I factor that in to my saving. And hey, it's shipped via courrier, so I get it well in advance of December. But it's so much fun opening each little package, and then watching the unboxing video for each day to learn more about the fibre and what inspired it.

🎄 IT'S HAPPENING! ADVENT 2024 IS LIVE! 🎄
