Despite these immense challenges, a beacon of hope emerged: the GMHL has granted the Muskoka Shield Jr. A Hockey Club full reinstatement to the league for the 2024-2025 season. However, this victory rings hollow without a home. Without the reinstatement of their ice contract at Graeme Murray Arena , the Muskoka Shield, one of only three remaining Original 7 GMHL clubs, faces an unthinkable fate: extinction.

Let us bring back excitement on those cold winter nights! Let us restore pride back into Muskoka Shield! Sign this petition if you stand by justice and support restoration of true spirit behind the Town of Gravenhurst's Jr A Hockey Club - The Muskoka Shield.

The Muskoka Shield Jr. A Hockey Club, Gravenhurst The Good beloved Jr A Hockey Club, has been a cornerstone of our community since 2006. The club generates much needed tourism dollars over the winter months for the town, the organization supports numerous local community charities & initiatives (such as raising $10,500 by bringing the Leafs to town for Movember Charity Game Fundraiser 2022) and most importantly, provided pure excitement and fantastic family entertainment in Downtown Gravenhurst every Friday & Saturday during the cold winter months. However, a dark cloud has cast over our hockey pride.

In December 2022, our Club President was falsely accused of assault during a league game. This led to his indefinite suspension from the Inside the GMHL for the remaining 21 games of that season (where they went 1-20 & dropped from 3rd Place to Last in the Standings and sadly Swept in the 1st Round of the Playoffs.

The team was operationally suspended this past 2023-2024 season which was one of the factors for a slight dip in revenue generation for local businesses in town. This tragic domino effect resulted in loss of highly touted recruited players from around the global, local sponsors severing partnership ties and most importantly - the termination without warning of the ICE CONTRACT with Town of Gravenhurst at Graeme Murray Arena.

Now we've received news that despite these setbacks, GMHL has given full reinstatement for play in October for the 2024-2025 season. But without a place to call home, as has had in downtown Gravenhurst since 2006, the team will be forced to cease operations and end the historic 18 year run as ‘One of Only 3 Original 7 Clubs Still In Operation’.

We believe in fair play both on and off the ice rink. We believe that false accusations should not tarnish an individual's or team's reputation or impact an entire community so deeply rooted in hockey culture.
We call upon the Town of Gravenhurst to review this case once more with fairness and transparency at its core; reinstate ’s ice contract so Ownership can lead us into another thrilling season; restore faith among community, league, players, sponsors; to negotiate new successful terms with the Town of Gravenhurst for ice contract renewal.
