"What exactly is a Sun Salutation Boost Session?" you may ask?πŸ€”

If you're participating in the Summer Solstice 108 Challenge, these sessions are a chance to add to your numbers while practicing as a groupβ€”either in the studio or on Zoom.(Helloooooo, Ontario! πŸ‘‹πŸ’œ)

The goal isn't to replace your day-to-day practice. These sessions are simply a little extra supportβ€”a way to boost your count, stay motivated, and feel connected to others taking on the challenge with you.πŸ‘―β€β™€οΈπŸ‘―β€β™‚οΈπŸ’ͺπŸ’ͺ

Whether you're doing 1 Sun Salutation a day or 20, we're all working toward the same goal together. 😊

Did you know?

Adults who don't strength train can lose 3–5% of their muscle mass per decade after age 30, and muscle strength can decline significantly as we age!

Before you panic, this doesn't mean you need to spend hours lifting heavy weights at the gym. πŸ˜‰

Regular movement, yoga, bodyweight exercises, resistance bands, walking, and other low-impact activities can all help maintain strength, muscle, balance, and overall function as the years go by.

The key is simply to keep moving.πŸ’ͺ🀸😊

Your future self will thank you for every little bit you do today. ❀️

🌬️ WHAT IS BALANCED BREATH? 🌬️

At the start of almost every class, you'll hear me say, "Throughout the session, I want us to practice what's called Balanced Breath"

But what does that actually mean?

Balanced breathing simply means creating smooth, even inhales and exhales. Instead of holding your breath, rushing it, or breathing shallowly, you allow your breath to flow at a steady,(evenly countedπŸ˜‰) comfortable pace.

Why does that matter?

πŸ’œ It helps calm your nervous system and signals to your body that you're safe and supported.

πŸ’œ It can lower stress levels, slow a racing mind, and help you feel more grounded.

πŸ’œ It improves focus and concentration, making it easier to stay present during your practice.

πŸ’œ It helps your body move more efficiently by delivering a steady supply of oxygen to your muscles.

The breath is one of the most powerful tools we have, and it's available to us every single day.

🌿 TONIGHT at 6:30 PM, we'll be focusing on exactly that in Bends-Day with Breath. It's a slower-paced practice where we take time to consciously pay attention and even our breath, build awareness, and learn how to use balanced breathing both on and off the mat.

The mix of fast and slow movements, pulses, holds, strength, and stretch can be challenging, but everyone absolutely ROCKED it tonight!πŸ’ͺ

There was sweat, there was determination, and I'm pretty sure there were a few choice words being thought during some of those exercises πŸ˜‚

Thank you to everyone who came out and worked so hard. I love watching you challenge yourselves and surprise yourselves with what you're capable of!!πŸ’ͺ

If you've joined me for BENDS-DAY before, you already know it's an accessible, all-levels yoga class designed to help you explore some of the most common poses and flows in yoga at a comfortable pace.

This time, we're adding a little extra focus on the breath.πŸ’¨

We'll spend a bit more time in certain poses, slowing things down so you can really notice the connection between your breath, your body, and your movement. It's a chance to move beyond simply "doing the pose" and start feeling the pose.
