The Foothills Yetis are building a premier development environment for young hockey players across the Foothills region. Our goal is simple: provide athletes with the coaching, development, and competitive opportunities they need to reach their full potential while fostering a positive culture and a lifelong love of the game.
The U9 Yetis Program is the foundation of our development pathway. Unlike many programs, our players train and play on FULL ICE, allowing for better teaching opportunities, more puck touches, increased skating development, and a stronger understanding of the game.
Through our development partnership with K&M Hockey Development and the K&M High Performance Centre, players gain access to a professional development pathway that includes:
• Structured on ice skill development
• Skate treadmill power skating training
• Synthetic ice shooting and puck handling development
• Goalie specific training
• Integrated off ice development programming
• Advanced coaching systems and mentorship
Leading our U9 program is Tyson Jones.
Tyson has spent his entire life around the game, playing junior hockey in High River, Wichita, Colorado Springs, and with the High River Flyers before dedicating himself to player development and coaching. With more than a decade of coaching experience, including serving as Director of Development for Okotoks Minor Hockey, Tyson brings a wealth of knowledge to our program.
What truly sets Tyson apart, however, is his ability to connect with young athletes. His energy, encouragement, and passion for celebrating every player’s success create an environment where kids feel confident, supported, and excited to improve. His philosophy is simple: build skills, build confidence, and help every player develop a lifelong love of hockey.
U9 ID Skate

5:30 PM – 6:30 PM
Viking Rental Centre
During the ID Skate, players will participate in high tempo drills and game situations while our coaching staff evaluates:
• Skating ability
• Hockey IQ
• Compete level
• Coachability
• Long term development potential
Our evaluation process is structured, fair, and focused on development.
