The Franklin Club

The Franklin Club Established in 1909 by a group of doctors from St. Michael's Hospital in Toronto, The Franklin Club was originally created as a private weekend fishing getaway.

A Private Members fishing club located forty-five minutes north of Toronto, at West Franklin, near the town of Mount Albert, The Franklin Club is a member-owned, private recreational fishing club specializing in fly-fishing for rainbow and speckled trout. Over the years, the Club has evolved into a year round fishing retreat for anglers. Members, including spouses, are encouraged to invite their f

amilies and friends to participate in the wide range of outdoor activities available at The Franklin Club.

At the heart of The Franklin Club is fishing, and at the heart of the fishing experience is our on-site trout hatchery.

This is where care, dedication, and tradition come together. Every day, our hatchery team supports the health and growth of our trout, maintains the raceways, and helps strengthen the future of our private fishery.

For more than 100 years, the hatchery has helped shape the fishing experience at The Franklin Club. It is one of the most meaningful parts of the Club, and one of the reasons fishing here feels so special.

Bright, bold, and hard for trout to ignore!

The Blob has earned its place in many stillwater fly boxes. It is not tied to imitate one insect in particular. Instead, it works as an attractor pattern, relying on colour, profile, and movement to pull a reaction from fish.

On The Franklin Club’s waters, a pattern like The Blob can be a useful choice when you are searching the water, changing the pace of a retrieve, or looking to see what trout will respond to on the day. It is also a fun, simple pattern to tie and a reliable one to keep close at hand.

What trout fly pattern gives you the most confidence on the water?

There's more than great fishing lives at The Franklin Club! 🦢🔎

Shared with us by a Club member in March 2026, this photo captures the return of two trumpeter swans to our waters. Since then, the lake has eased from winter’s grasp, and signs of spring have begun to unfold across our 200 acre property. Spring is one of the most remarkable times at the Club, when winter’s stillness begins to loosen its hold, songbirds return, their calls carry through the trees, and the property fills with the welcome sounds of nature awakening.

Curious which bird species have been seen around the Club?
