My studio is officially open in Cranbrook.
For those of you that don't know what pilates is it is a series of low impact exercises performed on a mat or other equipment to promote strength, stability, and flexibility. Pilates exercises develop the body through muscular effort that stems from the core. It is a balance of strength and stretch with control. Pilates is a practice, a discipline and a lifestyle. It will help support you in the things you love to do and is a journey without end . It can be done regardless of age or fitness level. We start with where you are in your body.
There are many benefits to doing pilates.
By focusing on building strength from the core, pilates can help alleviate pain and tension in over used muscles and help to prevent, rehabilitate or recover from injuries.
The aim is to work the body evenly and bring your body back into balance.
It is also a mind body workout that is designed to help you gain control over your breathing and find a deeper connection to your body.
But it is not just for people with injuries. By evenly working and strengthening the muscles of the body you can improve your sports performance, and many daily activities and repetitive movements that can lead to imbalances and eventual injuries .
It was traumas and injury that led me to a pilates studio and I discovered this brilliant system to help in my recovery. Joseph Pilates wrote a book that is very aptly named " return to life" and that is exactly what pilates has done for me. I have gotten my life back and am now hoping to help others the same way I was helped.
