I could not think of a better way to start a new week than to celebrate a big win for one of my clients, Mavi.

She came to me with concerns & time constraints preparing for her physical fitness testing to join the Canadian Armed Forces. In just a short amount of time, we developed her plan, made sure she was emotionally ready and by her OWN determination and the support of her family, she passed with flying colours.

Im a very pleased to announce that (in addition to the classes I will be hosting at The School House - Collingwood),
I am now officially coaching fitness classes at F45 Blue Mountain!

These classes are 45 min of full body athletic movements for all ages and all levels. I coach roughly 6-7 classes per week so there are plenty of options to run into me.

HIP HEALTH FOR FIRST RESPONDERS
As First Responders, we move fast, lift heavy, and operate in unstable environments. This makes hip injuries a real concern. From quick pivots to fast twists and quick twitch reactions, your hips are your power source, which can be your weakest link if not managed properly.

Common Hip Injuries on scene.

Labral Tears
The labrum stabilizes the hip — a tear reduces joint integrity and often mimics groin or quad pain.

Femoroacetabular Impingement (FAI)
FAI is common based on lowrr body mobements and can lead to labral damage over time.

Strains (Hip Flexors/ adductors)
Common with sprinting, climbing, or lifting without proper warm-up or mobility. Imbalances from prolonged sitting or gear weight can cause compensations that strain surrounding tissues.

🧠 Key Prevention Tips
Strengthen the posterior chain (glutes, hamstrings, and errector muscles) to balance out the lower body.
✔️ Train the entirety of the hip area.
✔️ Prioritize dynamic warmups.
✔️ Monitor for early signs: groin pain.
✔️ Don’t ignore clicking/popping.

SAR Training - Compass & GPS 🧭
Last night, we were out brushing up on our compass navigation. Practicing how to shoot bearings, follow coordinates, and clue tracking for missing people.
A search can be done or required at any time, night, or day. This means that paying attention to your surroundings and how you navigate terrain will come into play.
How you walk, where you step, and how you maintain balance is key while also looking at a compass or GPS.
Top Tips:
Shoot a bearing, know your direction.
Survey the immediate area of terrain.
Survey what's coming up as you walk.
Adjust posture, stepping, and pace as you navigate.
