5 things I tell clients who want lasting results:
1) Depend on discipline, not motivation
Motivation is fleeting; discipline is a skill. You build it by showing up on the days you donât want to, again and again, until consistency becomes automatic. Eventually, itâs just what you do â like brushing your teeth or making coffee. Thatâs when fitness stops being a âplanâ and starts being a lifestyle
2) Showing up isnât enough â the effort matters.
Checking the box doesnât yield results. Progress happens when you challenge your muscles â when you train with enough intent and intensity to reach fatigue. Thatâs how your body adapts and grows stronger. So instead of just âgetting throughâ your workout, ask yourself: did I actually challenge myself today
3) Strength training is non-negotiable
If your goal involves reshaping your body, improving longevity, or boosting metabolism, lifting weights is the cornerstone. Cardio supports your heart, mood, and endurance. Yoga, Pilates, HIIT, and classes are great for variety and mobility. But the aesthetic and structural changes youâre chasing come from progressive strength training.
4) Extreme goals come with extreme sacrifice
If youâre dreaming of a magazine-cover physique or dramatic transformation, it will demand deep lifestyle changes â from your schedule to your social life and recovery habits. Thereâs nothing wrong with that if youâre prepared for the trade-offs. Clarity matters. Decide how far youâre willing to go and design your goals around that level of commitment.
5)You donât need to love it â but you do need to find some enjoyment in it.
Youâre not going to wake up excited every day to train, and thatâs okay. The goal isnât to fall in love with every workout â itâs to create a relationship with movement thatâs doable long-term. Find small ways to make it enjoyable: a playlist you love, a workout buddy, a type of training that feels empowering. Enjoyment fuels consistency, and consistency is the only thing that truly works!
