How I managed to stay lean in my “offseason” & beat yo yo dieting🍕.
️⃣ Stick to the whole foods for at least 80% of your diet. Whole foods- meaning anything that comes from the ground or an animal- keeps us satisfied longer and our body knows how to digest properly if we stick to foods with less artificial flavours/preservatives etc.
️⃣ Compared to popular belief, it is OKAY to do cardio in your offseason. You won’t lose your “gains” from doing a little cardio here and there. I currently still do 25-30 mins of steady state cardio 5x a week. This has managed to keep me somewhat lean while not having to be in a deficit, keeps my cardio system conditioned, and I actually do enjoy it 💦.
️⃣ Adequate protein intake. Proper protein intake every day keeps me more satisfied and less likely to binge over in carbs and fats. My daily protein shake using whey helps curb my heavy sweet tooth 🍫.
️⃣ Extra water. I start my day off with water and lemon before eating, and then I drink my Vegan Greens to jump start digestion! I’ve also started incorporating a couple shots of fresh grapefruit juice into my morning routine- grapefruit has HUGE weight loss benefits, I’ll touch on that in a blog post soon.
️⃣Lastly- I haven’t been restricting myself whatsoever. In past offseasons, I found myself binging for small periods of time then doing hours of cardio to catch back up before my next prep starts. What was different this time? Not 100% sure- Maybe that I’m not sure when the next time I’ll step on stage will be. Maybe I have finally learnt how my body works and what it was needing for so long. Either way- if you’re craving something, have it in small amounts. If you’re not in prep, then don’t sweat the small stuff. Have a little chocolate, but make sure you’re working for it first ✔️.
