The Canadian Women’s Hockey League (CWHL) has made the decision to discontinue operations effective May 1, 2019.

Girls Hockey Calgary sends our support to the players, leaders and fans who are impacted by this difficult announcement. We stand alongside our Inferno family as they continue to try and grow professional women’s hockey.

Thank you to the CWHL and the Calgary Inferno for everything you’ve done for girls in our association and across the country. GHC will continue to work with the members and supporters of these organizations in whatever capacity moving forward.

At this time, GHC does not anticipate a change in our community team identity. We have created a family of Jr. Inferno players and fans, and hope to continue to do so. GHC has more than 40 Jr. Inferno teams from Timbits to Midget who play in Calgary’s minor hockey system through Hockey Calgary. Our elite program, the Calgary Fire, will also remain the same.

We will keep our members updated as we learn more.

The first weekend of the 2019 Hockey Alberta Provincial Championships, presented by ATB Financial, was a major success, with 13 new champions crowned across Alberta!

We want to say a big ‘THANK YOU!!’ to the volunteers outside of our Bantam Red team, for coming to help and support this tournament. We couldn’t have done this without you. We really appreciate the help we got for box duties, as well as the help at the raffle table and selling 50/50’s. Thank you to the parents from our sister team (Bantam White) for helping with the fundraising. It was amazing to have outside volunteers in the box for the final game, so that all the parents could sit and watch that final game. Words can’t describe how grateful we are! ❤️
