Balletiques Fitness classes are high energy barre classes that fuse ballet with fitness for a total body workout and a burn from head-to-toe! A total body workout that combines the strength, elegance and athleticism of ballet with the power, endurance and dynamics of a traditional workout class. Set to the latest up-beat pop music, this unique ballet-inspired fitness class will help build, define and tone long, lean muscles. Core-centered and cardio-busting exercises at the barre, in the centre will target your arms, abs, glutes and thighs.

Ever wanted to learn a b***et variation? Are you over 50 and always wanted to do b***et as a child but never got the chance? Well, you are in luck! My Silver Swans online b***et classes are specifically designed for older learners with a range of abilities.

Right now, my Swans and I are learning the Waltz of the Flowers from The Nutcracker. Each week, at the end of the regular Thursday online class, we learn a small section of this famous variation.

As a qualified, registered Silver Swans licensee and RAD b***et teacher, I have undergone specialist training on how to safely adapt b***et teaching techniques and content for adults of different ages and abilities. I know how to adapt even the hardest of steps to modify them to make them safe, more manageable, and attainable for a beginner.

Dancing, much like dreaming, is an expression of freedom, emotion, and creativity, where the usual constraints of the world are lifted and expression flows naturally through movement.

Dance can transport a person to a different state of mind, allowing them to communicate feelings and ideas that might be difficult to articulate otherwise, much like the imaginative and often surreal experience of a dream.

I am loving being back dancing with my Silver Swans again. We are having so much fun, and all in the comfort of our own homes.

Every Thursday, my members and I meet on Zoom and dance like no one is watching! I have Swans from all over the world, including the US, UK, Ireland, Spain, The Netherlands, and of course, Canada.

We all come together for the love of Ballet, to move our bodies, have fun, and learn something new.

We have had an amazing summer and I am excited to share that I have recovered wonderfully after my hip replacement in December and am feeling great. It was a long road with lots of turns and dead ends but I got to the end and I can honestly say it has been life changing.

With this positive progress, I am so happy to tell you that I have decided to resume my online Zoom Silver Swans classes, every Thursday, starting this Thursday, September 11th. Yay!

Bionic woman! Wow, the image of the screw still makes me shudder!

My recovery is going well. I still have aches and pains in the outer thigh and below the incision but the actual hip is pain-free and feeling good. It is SO good to not be in constant pain 🥳

I have been doing my PT exercises and have gone back to my deep water aqua classes 3 times a week which has been amazing. Slowly but surely I am beginning to feel like myself again.

I will be back before you know it!

Recovery is going well and I am doing great. I am walking with just my cane now and although the incision is still tender and uncomfortable at times (especially when sitting), and the glute muscles are a little weak and get tired easily, I have no pain and I am off my pain meds.

My muscles are very tight and my range of motion in the hip isn't as it was right now but at least it is pain free! Woo hoo!

I have been walking for 30-45 minutes everyday and keeping up with my ice therapy and physical therapy exercises and stretching.

I am feeling positive and looking forward to getting back to fitness and feeling good again. Onwards and upwards!

This quote resonated with me a lot. As a dancer I have always been very good at listening to my body and understanding how it is feeling but when you are suffering it can be hard to hear it over the constant hum of chronic pain, worry and anxiety.

Right now as I recover from surgery I am reminding myself to be kind and patient with myself and really listen to the subtle cues that the body is giving for attention. I know I am exactly where I need to be right now.
