How comfortable are you public speaking? It’s the number one fear for a lot of people! Today I attended the first of a two day conference in Calgary called Speakpreneur with Paul Getter Getter.

Honestly? It was fantastic. Lots of great content from the polished and the learning. Sure. There was sales. But they seem to be the real deal!

All in my goal to get more visible.

Do you think of yourself as ambitious? 👀

I ask because a client recently told me she almost didn't reach out to work with me — because my website says I work with ambitious women, and she didn't think that word described her.

Then we talked for five minutes about her life. Unhappy in her role. Busy mom. Wanting to be well-used, to keep growing, to give more than her job was asking of her.

"Yes," she said. "I suppose I am ambitious. I just never thought of myself that way."

I think a lot of women flinch at that word because it feels like a trade-off — like choosing your own goals means choosing against the people you love.

I don't think it's zero-sum. (We'll get into that one another day.) 😉

I often say to people yes, it’s great to be able to work from anywhere, but it isn’t always easy. 😅

Over the past few years, as I’ve worked in my remote business I’ve set up makeshift offices all over the place. I’ve conducted virtual meetings on top of a washing machine on the South Island of New Zealand 🇳🇿, on top of a pile of books 📚 in a timeshare in the Rocky Mountains ⛰️, in my car parked near my daughter’s dance studio, in the cafeteria at the Calgary Zoo 🐒, on the floor of an airport… and the list goes on.

This week I set my virtual office up at my cabin in the woods in Newfoundland and Labrador. Take a peek at my setup and some of the challenges that come with it. 🤭

Have you heard about the "summer slide?" It's how school teachers sometimes refer to the slow slide in academic skills their students experience over the summer.

However the summer slide isn’t just for schoolchildren. It can happen in business too.

In January, I thought to myself: "What would be a great way to meet people in a small and meaningful group setting that wouldn't take too much planning?" And so, Aligned Mornings was born.

Every month since January I have hosted a small group of women for breakfast at various spots around Calgary. Sometimes we have 8 people, sometimes we have 3, and always just the right people show up. In fact, the smaller the group, inevitably the deeper we go. It's lightly facilitated by me, a topic is discussed, and inevitably we all meet someone new and leave with a wider circle of trusted colleagues.

I'm holding one more this coming week, Tuesday, June 23 at 8:30am. The first seven people get a seat at the table. Join us? We still have some spots available.
