It is important to remember that corporate training should be designed to solve a business problem. It should not be a content dump, or a 2 hour session "just because".

Talk with your instructional design team about how the training you think you need will solve a real problem and back it up with a measurable result.

Don't have a team? Reach out to me and let the e-Learning Pros Instructional Design team will help!

Have you ever considered the concept of "working out loud" or "showing your work"?

There can be incredible benefits to sharing what you are working on with your personal learning network to gain feedback, get ideas, help you over a hurdle or challenge and to test out your progress. One of my friends Cara North has put together a cool 6 week instructional design challenge.

This can be used for more than instructional design, it can be UX, coding, game-play design, graphic design - whatever YOU are working on.

I'll be sharing updates for my project on the e-Learning Pros Instructional Design blog. you can find the blog at http://www.e-learningpro.com/blog.

Link to Cara's challenge is in the comments.

Do you use humour/humor in your courses? Several scholarly articles discuss the benefits of using humour/humor to reinforce a concept that was "just" being discussed/taught. Here is one such Higher Ed article.

Personally, I do find I remember the things that evoke an emotional response such as making me laugh out loud, gasp, react with disgust or horror... those things stick.

What sticks for you?

Humor in educational settings serves a variety of positive functions beyond simply making people laugh. But does humor promote student learning?
