If you feel overwhelmed as a female lead, you’re not alone! Leading is already difficult, and when the pressures of home life, (secular) work life, and church-leader life mesh together...holy overwhelm!

So it’s time to level up our leadership!

1. Don’t do it alone. You are responsible for the outcome, but you can get so much more done with a team. So, look around for like-minded sisters in your ministry, train them, then delegate, check in with them regularly, and watch the accomplishments happen!

2. Don’t always be ‘on’. Burnout is real! You don’t always have to be ready to do everything you’re asked to do or be in every place that people think you need to be. Make time for yourself. Your routine of work, rest, recharge, then return to work is crucial to your mental and physical health.

3. Don’t hide your fears. You took on the leadership role, it’s not what you thought it would be, or you just don’t know how to proceed. So, own it! Talk to God and share your fears with a trusted friend. Imposter syndrome is real! When we look at others we can doubt our skills, talents, or even our accomplishments, causing us to fear being exposed. But if God called you to it, He will take you through it and it will be effective.

4. Do take the time to build resilience. Your mindset is crucial to your success as a leader. The mind is a battlefield that requires God’s power to overcome the enemy’s efforts to take over. But, ‘in all these things we are more than conquerors’ in trouble, hardship, persecution etc (Rom 8: 31-37 context).

5. Do build your Christ-relationship. As women leaders we can get distracted by what is going on around us. However, let’s stay connected to ‘the vine.’ Our sanity, success, and security lie in Jesus Christ. He said, “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing” (meaningful, worthwhile, everlasting) (John 15:5).

Levelling up our leadership is not easy to do, but it’s oh so worth it!
