I don’t really care much for NFL football. It’s not my sport. I don’t really watch it. Today I thought for sh*ts and giggles I would watch the Bills game.
Low and behold, it’s freakin exciting!

If this saves one person, it was worth my time to post

When you are alone and have a heart attack. What are you gonna do then ?
A rarely good post that can't be shared often enough:

1.
Take a 2 minute break and read this:
Let's say it's 5:25 pm and you're driving home after an unusually hard day's work.
2.
You are really tired and frustrated.
All of a sudden your chest pains. They are starting to radiate in the arm and jaw. It feels like being stabbed in the chest and heart. You're only a few miles away from the nearest hospital or home.
3.
Unfortunately you don't know if you can make it..
4.
Maybe you've taken CPR training, but the person running the course hasn't told you how to help yourself.
5.
How do you survive a heart attack when you're alone when it happens? A person who is feeling weak and whose heart is beating hard has only about 10 seconds before losing consciousness.
6.
But you can help yourself by coughing repeatedly and very strongly! Deep breaths before every cough. Coughing should be repeated every second until you arrive at the hospital or until your heart starts to beat normally.
7.
Deep breathing gives oxygen to your lungs and coughing movements boost the heart and blood circulation. Heart pressure also helps to restore a normal heartbeat. Here's how cardiac arrest victims can make it to the hospital for the right treatment
8.
Cardiologists say if someone gets this message and passes it on to 10 people, we can expect to save at least one life.
9. FOR WOMEN: You should know that women have additional and different symptoms. Rarely have crushing chest pain or pain in the arms. Often have indigestion and tightness across the back at the bra line plus sudden fatigue.
Instead of posting jokes, you're helping save lives by spreading this message.

As tryouts begin so does the anxiety of making the team. Coaches will have 25-40 players on the ice in many cases and that means just more than a minute of "look" time that coach will have for your son/daughter assuming he/she gives every player equal eval time. In reality, coaches will focus most of their time on those players that stand out so to be fair it's more like 20 seconds of focus time on your player specifically unless they are already on the coaches radar. How can your player stand out above the crowd? Little things get attention. Start by having a face to face with the coach prior to the skate. Introduce yourself, thank him/her for taking the time to evaluate you and ask if there is anything specific he/or she is looking to see from players. Keep it brief but to the point. When you are on the ice, be first in the line if you can, first to the board and first to take a knee when the coach or instructor is talking. Be consistent with a high level of energy. Finish every drill like it is a race, coaches notice those who finish the whole drill as most others will cut out in the last 10-15 feet so going the distance will catch the coach's eye. Be respectful to all players and most of all! Stay focused on what you are being asked to do? If you have doubts on how to do something, ask for clarification or a visual demonstration . If you muddle through and don't do it right you can bet that will stand out in the wrong way. Most tryouts have a "pace" set by the group and most players will follow the tryout pace. Don't fall into the pace trap! It's a race to win that spot and if you have speed you have to use it all to get seen. Be the pace car not the traffic cop, speed is a big eye catcher! Give it all you have and Good Luck!!

Trying to fix shooting/scoring issues with a HL caliber player is often misdiagnosed by parents and coaches. Often the real culprit is skating not shooting skills. Players need to develop strength, balance, control and confidence on their edges before shooting skills can be improved effectively. Specifically, being confident holding their balance on one skate while executing stick and puck skills. Breaking it down is what I do. Players at the HL level are often not confident in their own ability to transfer their weight from one skate to the other without losing their balance especially while following through with their shot as that means holding their balance on one skate while controlling the inertia created by the shooting process. How do we fix it? We start with one foot skating skills and balance. If your frustrated with your hockey player’s shooting skills, then reach out to me for training results that are successful!

Ever wonder why some players develop quicker than others? Oh sure there are some physiological reasons but there is one powerful factor that matters most. Your on ice instructors need to know how to diagnose what’s wrong and where and then need to use effective building block techniques to fix the issue! Many instructors are caught up in teaching the drills and CAN’T teach the skills! I recently had a mom bring her 5 yr old son to me. She had invested several hours with a private instructor who ran drill after drill relying on the drill to teach the skill.

Drills develop skills AFTER the technique is taught and learned. This five year old skated with two hands on his stick pushing with his right skate while keeping his left skate on the ice. No one took the time to isolate the skill of pushing one leg, then gliding before pushing with the other leg. It’s basic skating stride training. After I got him extending his stride with both legs I showed him how to use his arms like he was running. He quickly realized he needed one hand on his stick to do this. In less than 30 minutes he was striding on both legs and supporting the stride with back and forth arm movements. Why was I able to get this boy skating properly in less than 30 min? 40 years of learning myself how to break it down, teach it in the right order and building the skill properly with the right drills that’s how. Why couldn’t the other instructor do that? I don’t know his particular reason but I’m my experience many private instructors are interested in running impressive sophisticated drills to impress parents thinking that will keep them in their programs rather than spending the time to correct technique first and reinforce the training with positive encouragement and the right amount of progressive degress of difficulty to get the results.
