Oakley Woods Oakley Woods is a family owned and operated business which creates quality croquet mallets and equipment for private and club clients around the world.

OAKLEY WOODS CROQUET is a family owned and operated business, located in Brighton, Ontario. With over twenty years of custom woodworking experience, our shop was kept busy making a variety of fine wood products, from small turned items to solid oak staircases and fine cabinets. Back in 1992, we were asked to replace some very tired backyard mallets. We discovered a local need for making high quali

ty croquet mallets. This lead to more mallets, followed by request for other croquet-related items. Soon we found ourselves providing balls, hoops, deadness boards, clips and a whole range of products. Listening to players has provided us with two valuable resources for product development, experience and need. From their experience on court, players know best what they want in a croquet mallet and our mallets have evolved from that input. When the need is great enough, we add a product to our catalog that had at one time been a custom order. New products are always being suggested. A visit to our shop will inevitably find prototypes in varying stages of development. The world of croquet has become a fascinating venture for our craftsmen and each day brings something new.

After a recent tour through croquet clubs in the southern USA, we had many discussions about Canada/USA relations. A good part focused on the tariffs that have been placed on the products entering America from many countries. The current situation is that Canadian-made goods, like our Oakley Woods Croquet mallets continue to go our our American customers duty & tariff free. For more on this subject, I've created a blog that is posted on our website. We've also placed a maple leaf logo on our products that are made in Canada.

How does this affect me? For at least 40 years, the USA has had a duty of 4.9% on Croquet balls. Almost all croquet balls are made in China, including Sunshiny's that we have provided to the croquet world for 25 years. In 2018, an extra 7% was added to all Chinese-made goods (balls included), enteri...

What is peripheral weighting, moment of inertia and why will improve my game? For these answers, read our latest blog at our website.

Part 2 of our discussion on mallet design is about weight. Why it's important and where it belongs. Over the course of this multipart series on mallet design, I'll be sharing my knowledge of various aspects of mallet design, including weight, head lengths, mallet heights, handle types and shapes. I'...

New for 2024. Our most advanced mallet yet. Made from American black walnut. The cavities are machined into the body for increased AERO-dynamics (lower wind resistance). That weight reduction is put back into the solid brass end plates for ultra-high peripheral weighting. The resulting increased moment of inertia reduces the 'twisties', reducing mis-hits. After a fun 66 day tour of many southern US croquet clubs from Florida to California, it became obvious that I needed to post a blog on bent shaft croquet mallets. If a "curvy" handle intrigues you, check out our latest blog post

Over 30 years ago, when I first started making croquet mallets, I thought “this is the most awkward piece of sports equipment I’ve ever held. But I’m a mallet-maker, so it shouldn’t be a problem.” Best described, at the moment of impact, the player’s wrists are hyper-extended when using ...
