On Saturday April 11, Kyoshi Jones and Shihan Jones along with Kyoshi Philip Watland of Lethbridge/McGrath AB attended a Shorinjiryu Canada Gasshuku session at Algonquin College in Ottawa Ontario.
Just over 60 karateka from various Shorinjiryu dojos in Canada attended a series of training sessions. All dojo are descendents of the Shorinjiryu Karatedo system developed by Kaiso Masayoshi Kori Hisataka after WWII.
Techniques covered were kata, yakusoku kumite, tenshi-jin bunkai, yoga(zen) breathing, buki-ho weaponry, judo waza, aikido waza, and goshin-jutsu.
After the training sessions, several dojo presented "embu" demonstrations of technical skills in the spirit of cooperation and harmony to advance and share the technical aspects of the similar but subtly different schools of Shorinjiryu Karate. The unique differences of the schools and the different applications of the technical aspects of the same forms and movements is both enriching and educational for each karateka and instructors
Both Kyoshi and Shihan Jones want to express thanks to the organizers Shihan Larry Foisy, and Shihan Max Mastrocola for their dedication and endless work in making this event possible. Obviously the contributing instructors to be thanked were Hanshi/Shinan Wayne Donivan, Shihan Darren Hunter, Shihan Dalil Maschino, Shihan Jean Eric Gibeau, and Shihan Gilles Labelle. Without their generous time and efforts, none of this would have been possible
Arigato gozai-masu!🙇♂️
