Baseball is the Grand Ole Game; with the Grand Ole Discipline
The Baseball Federation of Belize hosted a five day (July 20-24) camp in Ladyville, Belize District, to impart meaningful knowledge and fundamental skills into the hearts and minds of a group of children, who truly desire to learn the game of baseball.
The children were taught the basic features of the game, so they were able to identify "fielding areas" such as: glove side (the area of a player's body where his or her glove is being worn), back hand side (an extended posture to the right or left area, which is the opposite of the glove hand--to field a ball, and the "at the fielder" position, which refers to a ball being hit directly towards a defensive player, who does not need to move too far away from his or her original position to catch the ball.
In addition, the participants also acquire the requisite knowledge that has allowed them to adopt essential hitting techniques, while able to differentiate between a "single" and a "double," as well as a "triple" from an "inside-the-park" home run.
Furthermore, they also learned to identify the fielding positions such as pitching, catching, first base, second base, short stop, third base, right field, center field, and left field.
Consequently, the children were able to apply their learning in two five innings scrimmages, which were played amongst themselves.
Encouragingly, they played with great joy and unfiltered happiness! The children really loved being on the field and playing a sport that naturally caused them to compete, bond with each other, learn from each other, and develop meaningful appreciation and relationships with each other.
Evidently, such display of intrinsic human behavior in our children demonstrate the significance of Sports, when consequential and sustainable investments are prioritized in this God-given discipline.
Hence, if they are continuously trained in this manner, they will eventually become morally sound, globally competent, and productive citizens, to say the least.
