Kinley Tshering Strikes Gold in Dhaka, Sets His Sights on the Asian Games
The Bhutan Archery Federation (BAF) proudly congratulated Kinley Tshering on winning the Gold Medal in the Recurve Men’s Division at the World Archery Asia President’s Challenge Cup held in Dhaka, Bangladesh from 29 July - 2 August 2026.
The tournament, held alongside the World Archery Asia Joint Training Programme, brought together 66 athletes from 19 countries competing in the Recurve Under-18 Boys, Under-18 Girls, Recurve Men, and Recurve Women categories. In the Recurve Men’s event, 20 athletes from 11 countries competed. Kinley delivered an outstanding performance, finishing first in the qualification round with 673/720 points before going on to claim the gold medal.
BAF would also like to extend our sincere thanks to the Bhutan Olympic Committee (BOC), under the leadership of His Royal Highness Prince Jigyel Ugyen Wangchuck, President of the Bhutan Olympic Committee, for its unwavering support to the Federation and our athletes. BOC’s continued investment in athlete development, international exposure, and high-performance training has been instrumental in creating opportunities for Bhutanese archers to compete and excel on the international stage.
This achievement is more than just another medal for Bhutan. It is the result of years of dedication, perseverance, and unwavering commitment to the sport.
Kinley has been one of Bhutan’s longest-serving recurve archers and continues to lead by example through his professionalism, discipline, and work ethic. He is currently Bhutan’s only Gold-category BEAST recurve athlete, a recognition earned through his consistent performances and pursuit of excellence.
Reflecting on his victory, Kinley said:
“I sincerely thank the Bhutan Olympic Committee, the Bhutan Archery Federation, my family, my coaches (past and present), my teammates, and all supporters for their unwavering support throughout my journey. This gold medal belongs to Bhutan. It has strengthened my confidence and belief as I continue preparing for the challenges ahead. I proudly dedicate this medal to my country and to my newborn baby boy.”
Kinley’s words reflect not only his gratitude but also the confidence this victory has given him as he continues his preparations for the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi–Nagoya, Japan.
In the lead-up to the Asian Games, Kinley demonstrated remarkable commitment by completing a month-long closed national training camp in Punakha, remaining fully focused even while his wife was in the final stage of her pregnancy.
On 23 July 2026, Kinley embraced one of life’s greatest blessings by becoming a father. Yet, only days later, he answered the call to represent Bhutan, leaving behind his wife and newborn son to compete in Dhaka. His willingness to balance family responsibilities with national duty is a testament to his dedication and passion for representing Bhutan.
This gold medal comes at a crucial stage of Bhutan’s preparations for the 2026 Asian Games, providing Kinley with a timely boost in confidence and momentum. His achievement is also an inspiration to Bhutan’s young archers, demonstrating that success is built on discipline, sacrifice, resilience, and perseverance.
