Three Generations, One Hope: A Call for Compassionate Kidney Donors

Three generations of women are living with the same painful reality, life on dialysis, with no potential kidney donor among their blood relatives.

The Bhutan Kidney Foundation is making a heartfelt appeal to compassionate individuals who may be willing to consider becoming a living kidney donor and giving one of these patients a chance at a better life.

The three patients are:

* Mother: Meto Selden, 59 years old, Blood Group: O+
* Daughter: Karma Yangchen, 43 years old, Blood Group: O+
* Neice: Kelzang Buthri, 17 years old, Blood Group: A+

For these women, dialysis has become part of everyday life. It means repeatedly travelling for treatment, enduring physical and emotional exhaustion, and living with the uncertainty of what tomorrow may bring.

What makes their situation even more heartbreaking is that none of them has a potential kidney donor among their blood-related family members.

A kidney transplant could offer them the possibility of freedom from regular dialysis and a chance to return to a more normal life. But that possibility depends on finding someone willing to make an extraordinary act of compassion.

A kidney donation is not simply giving an organ. It is giving someone time, hope, family moments and another opportunity to live.

The Bhutan Kidney Foundation is therefore appealing to compassionate individuals aged between 18-60 year old who may be willing to explore living kidney donation.

For as long as I can remember, I carried a quiet dream in my heart—to visit Ladakh and have the precious opportunity to meet His Holiness the Dalai Lama at least once in this lifetime.

And somehow, that dream came true sooner than I ever imagined.

I have always believed myself to be a strong person, someone who does not cry easily. But the moment I saw His Holiness, something within me simply dissolved. Tears filled my eyes, and they would not stop. There was no sadness, no pain—only an overwhelming feeling that my heart could not contain.

Deep within, I knew those tears were not simply mine.

It felt as though, in that moment, compassion itself had taken form before me. As though the presence of a living embodiment of boundless love and compassion had touched a place within me that words could never reach. I could feel an energy so pure, so gentle, and yet so powerful that all I could do was stand there with tears in my eyes.

Perhaps this is what deep devotion feels like—not something that needs to be spoken, explained, or understood, but something the heart recognises before the mind ever can.

Some moments are not meant to be explained. They are meant to be felt, carried quietly within the heart, and cherished for the rest of this life.

I will forever be grateful for that moment.

A dream became a blessing.
A blessing became an experience.
And an experience became something my heart will carry forever.

May I never forget what it felt like to stand before compassion itself. 🙏🏻
