Bhutanese Hopes Rest on Paro FC and Thimphu City Amidst Strong Indian Presence in BIFA Quarter-Finals
​Samdrup Jongkhar: The Bhutan-India Friendship Association (BIFA) Football Tournament 2025 has reached a pivotal stage, with the quarter-final bracket now heavily outnumbering the Bhutanese contingent. Only two of the six starting Bhutanese teams, Paro FC and Thimphu City, have secured their spots in the next round.
​The quarter-finals feature a significant Indian presence after Dungsam Worries were defeated 4-2 by the well-drilled Barbeta side in a competitive, six-goal match. Dungsam Worries fought hard but ultimately could not overcome their rivals.
​With this result, all remaining Indian teams have advanced, setting up a thrilling series of international clashes. The two Bhutanese flagbearers now face the immense challenge of overcoming this strong, numerically superior opposition.
​"The tournament structure meant the Indian teams were numerous from the start, and they've shown their quality by advancing en masse," commented a local sports analyst. "The pressure is now squarely on Paro FC and Thimphu City. They are the pride of the nation and must now rise to the challenge presented by the strong Indian clubs."
​All eyes will be on Paro FC and Thimphu City as they battle to keep the BIFA 2025 trophy hopes alive for Bhutan in the demanding knockout rounds.
