One of the first three humans to orbit the Moon in 1968. Commander of Apollo 13, who helped bring his crew home after a near-fatal crisis. Four spaceflights. 715 hours in space. That was Jim Lovell.

He passed away on August 7, 2025, at the age of 97. But before he died, he left behind something no one on the Artemis II crew knew about—a message.

NASA kept it private. Then, on the sixth day of the mission, as the crew approached the Moon, it was played.

"Welcome to my old neighborhood."

Lovell spoke about Apollo 8—about orbiting the Moon with Frank Borman and Bill Anders on Christmas Eve 1968, as a billion people watched from Earth. He said he was proud to pass the torch. He told them to take it all in.

And then, he closed the message the same way that historic broadcast ended 58 years ago:

"Godspeed from all of us here on the good Earth."

He called each astronaut by name—Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, Jeremy Hansen.

He never saw Artemis II launch. He never watched them leave the pad. But his words were there—waiting for them at the Moon.

The Most Legendary Aquarium Escape Ever 🐙

Meet Inky—the octopus who turned a quiet night into an unforgettable jailbreak.

At the National Aquarium of New Zealand, Inky waited for the perfect moment. When the lights dimmed and the staff headed home, he made his move. Spotting a small gap left open at the top of his tank, he squeezed his soft, flexible body through—no easy feat for something roughly the size of a football.

But that was just the beginning.

Instead of wandering aimlessly, Inky located the tank’s overflow pipe. With no bones to hold him back, he compressed himself and slipped inside, navigating the narrow passage with ease. He traveled through a six-inch drainage pipe, covering more than 150 feet, until—finally—he reached his destination: the open ocean.

Freedom, earned through pure ingenuity.

Basic Things To Know ✅

This image shows the day and night signals used by different types of vessels so they can be properly identified at sea.

🔆 Day Signals

During daytime, ships display shapes:
• RAM (Restricted Ability to Manoeuvre) – ball/diamond/ball shapes
• Fishing Vessel – two cones facing each other
• Sailing Vessel – no shapes unless also using the engine
• PD (Pilot Duty) Vessel – no special shapes, but has a pilot flag (not shown here)
• NUC (Not Under Command) – two black balls
• CBD (Constrained by Draft) – a cylinder shape

🌙 Night Signals

At night, ships use lights instead of shapes:
• RAM Vessel – red-white-red lights
• Fishing Vessel – red over white lights
• Sailing Vessel – red and green sidelights with no masthead light
• PD Vessel – white over red lights
• NUC Vessel – two red lights
• CBD Vessel – three red lights in a vertical line

These signals help other vessels know who has maneuvering priority and avoid collisions.

Sometimes the real sport isn’t sailing… it’s keeping the boat running long enough *to* sail. Anyone else feel like half their weekends are spent elbow-deep in a mystery leak, a stubborn bolt, or an engine that suddenly “has a vibe”?

But hey, a mug of coffee, a pile of tools, and a problem to solve… that’s boat life. And honestly? We wouldn’t trade it.
