UNDER THE ARCHES
HYROX European, Middle-East & African Championships 🇬🇧
Personal recap of one of the biggest events of the season.
I was signed up for men’s doubles, singles, and a relay. But after 2 months of a chronic neck injury (and resulting hamstring and calf issues), I made the call 5 days out after failing my final test run: no racing.
A hard pill to swallow.
So I shifted the goal:
→ enjoy and learn from the experience
→ support Team X and the fitness racing community
→ take a calculated shot at the 40+ relay world record
What followed was a weekend full of:
🔥 elite performances
🔥 strong energy
🔥 a great community
We saw athletes deliver at the highest level:
- Dutch elite pride with Emilie, Maarten, and especially Hidde breaking the world record
- Tim & Alex setting a new elite doubles world record
- Cem & Sam becoming European Champions and breaking the AG world record
- Marnix & Ilse taking silver in mixed doubles
- Team X: 3 podiums, 2 world records, and strong PRs
And then the final act of the weekend; our WR relay attempt.
Three teammates had already pulled out of their individual races.Another was coming off the flu. We found replacements… and lost them again. 2 hours before the race we were back to the original team: Do or die.
We chose to go.
With 200 races of experience between us, we relied on grit, composure, and each other, and managed to deliver.
→ 40+ MEN’S RELAY WORLD RECORD: 49:03
This sport keeps moving. The level keeps rising. But if you stay in the process, support others, and keep showing up… good things can still happen.
Now it's time to rebuild.
