Volunteer for Intellectual Property - VIP

Volunteer for Intellectual Property - VIP VIP is a youth-oriented program to promote Intellectual Property Awareness, Community Leadership and the Art of Volunteerism in Bangladesh.

The VOLUNTEER FOR IP (VIP) is aimed to be MORE than an opportunity for the youth community of Bangladesh. Here enthusiastic young individuals are selected, groomed and certified to be a committed advocate of IPR. The program is designed to promote -

• Basics of IPR
• Importance of IPR for Bangladesh
• Benefits of Volunteering for IP
• Lead by Example: Leadership and
• How to be a VIP

Certifie

d VIPs are expected to carry out IPR awareness activities among their peers, communities and social circles. The activities are reasoned to be interactive and may range from interactive discussion sessions, simulation sessions to tailor-made training workshop or academic seminars. VIPs will have ample support, opportunities and provisions to conduct the probable activities. GOALS & OBJECTIVES
• Generate mass awareness among youth society on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR)
• Generate the significance of protected innovations and creativity
• Familiarize the relevant stakeholders of IPR on the various aspects of IP
• Promote technological innovations of Bangladesh
• Encourage the youth society in nurturing creativity and innovation
• Provide adequate guidance and support towards young IP holders
• Provide a platform to showcase and participate in the global platform of IPR
• Increase basic general understanding of IPR

VIP is an initiative of Bangladesh Copyright & IP Forum (BCIPF). To commemorate the World IP Day, BCIPF is launching the VIP campaign with the aspiring youth of Bangladesh through a daylong Boot Camp on 26 April, 2014. Join us at www.facebook.com/bcipf

"Throughout the event, the participants engaged with the speakers about pervasive IP issues. Manzurur Rahman pointed out the essential need for IP awareness so that no other Bangladeshi meet the same fate as late Lucky Akhand. He emphasized on the topic of discussion by drawing the analogy of seeking legal help for an individual’s intangible property, i.e. intellectual property, the same way one would seek help and fight for their tangible property. Barrister Mishbah highlighted the special importance of IP awareness due to the rising and thriving “idea market” and potential of Bangladesh, where even young children are making games. Urfi Ahmed, shared the prevalence of IP infringement where the aired TV shows are being made available in unauthorized manner via online media."

উরফি আহমেদ টেলিভিশন চ্যানেলগুলোর জন্য বিভিন্ন অনুষ্ঠানের মেধাস্বত্ব সংরক্ষণ অপরিহার্য উল্লেখ করে বলেন, ‘ইদানিং আমাদের বিভিন্ন টিভি চ্যালেনের অনুষ্ঠান অন এয়ারের এক ঘণ্টার মধ্যেই ইউটিউবে পাওয়া যায়, যা অবৈধ। মেধাস্বত্ব সংরক্ষণ একটা দেশের, একজন সৃষ্টিশীল মানুষের ভবিষ্যৎ।’

মিজবাহ বলেন, ‘ইন্টারনেটে ডোমেইন নাম রেজিস্ট্রেশনে সব দেশেই আইন আছে, কিন্তু আমাদের দেশে নেই; যা দুঃখজনক। তাই আমাদের ডোমেইন ট্রেডমার্ক করে নিতে হবে।’
