According to the Directorate of Highways of the Republic of Macedonia the first Highway in the south will be opened in 2029. The first section will link Katherini/Катерини with Egey/Егеј. The current highway development plan focuses mostly on the under-invested southern part of the country, neglected since the existence of Yugoslavia.
