Title weekend has come to an end…
What was meant to be a one-day event quickly turned into two, thanks to the wet weather deciding it wanted a say in how our weekend played out. Yesterday’s mud pit was completely unraceable, but today the track was fast and action-packed, a huge credit to the legendary Caleb Lincoln for helping bring it back to life.
We managed to get our first heat in last night on the slop, with the amazing much needed help in the pits from Alistair (our new mud boy) we slid her out and was ment to start 10th but due to some penalties we started P6 to finish P3 in limp mode before the meeting was called off.
Heading back today, we weren’t overly confident things were going to improve, but we rolled out for Heat 2 starting P5 and brought it home in P3 again …. still stuck in limp mode.
Back to the drawing board we went.
With the help of Logan Mair and Holly Strickland, the boys worked hard to try a few changes, and we lined up Heat 3 from pole. Unfortunately, as soon as the pedal went down, we were straight back into limp mode, ending our race before it had even really begun.
At that point, we had nothing to lose.
With the help of the Carringtons, Tommy McDonald, and the Lincoln crew - Caleb, brodie and James, we kept digging, trying different ideas to find the issue.
After a few adjustments. We made the call to request two test laps before the feature, not just for ourselves but for everyone’s safety. The last thing we wanted was to repeat Heat 3 and go nowhere with a strong field charging behind us.
Thankfully, the hot laps gave us some confidence that we’d found the problem.
So we rolled out for the 45-minute A-Main starting from P17.
From there, everything finally came together. The car came to life, and Ian drove an absolute stormer, picking them off one by one and pushing forward against some of the best in the state. Before we knew it, we were sitting in P6 with just 7 laps to go.
After the kind of weekend we’d had, there was only one option ….. go for it.
Seven laps later, the chequered flag dropped, and the AX22 crossed the line in P4.
From being well and truly on the back foot all weekend to finishing on the podium, that’s something we’re incredibly proud of.
Massive congratulations to Brendan Miller on the win, very well deserved. We had a feeling this might be your year, and you didn’t disappoint.
Also to Jay Nicolaisen (P2) and Brad Warren Wazza (P3) and Braiden Claridge (P5) awesome drives all round.
To Bairnsdale Speedway, the Victorian Speedway Council committee, volunteers, and all the drivers, the patience, teamwork, and effort across the weekend was unreal. With everything working against us, everyone came together and showed what this class is all about.
And finally, to our sponsors, your support means everything. We couldn’t do it without you.
