Introducing new exercises and setting new challenges each week adds variety to every class. At BOAS we perform classic Pilates exercises alongside movements inspired by yoga, gym and ballet. We use small apparatus like balls, foam rollers and weights to make exercises easier or harder. We perform functional movements which will assist us as we age and we practise balancing…….a lot!!!

Pilates plank is hard because it’s a whole body exercise. Holding your body weight against gravity makes muscles twitch and shake, wrists start to ache, the neck gives up and the back starts to dip. It takes a lot of practise to produce a plank like Joseph Pilates (below). But at BOAS Pilates we do what we can, we practise every week, make modifications where needed and encourage everyone to try and hold their own version of a plank for 60 seconds. It’s not the perfect finished product that counts, it’s having a go.

Saw some hilarious questions and statements about Pilates today whilst searching for an inspiring quote! I have taught mat Pilates for almost 20 years and with my hand on my heart I can say that Pilates exercises (if performed properly and consistently) will reap benefits to EVERY body no matter what shape, size, age or gender! Join one of our mat classes this week to see for yourself how ridiculously effective Pilates can be….. and despite what some of my clients might say, it’s not torture at all 🫠
