Our club again enjoyed a youth and international flavoured theme this week when we heard about the week of our Exchange student, Ella, and were visited by her parent, Carola and Sascha, and sister, Emma. We also heard an enlightening account from Samuel Hubbard, grandson of PP Pat Lewis and wife Olwyn, of his early experiences in his study of Medicine.

Our members ventured out from the safety of the Peninsula this week to investigate and support businesses to our North. First stop was the Block and Tackle Brewery at Kincumber. A great variety of craft beers were available to sample, and sample we did! Then off to a sumptuous meal at the Kincumber Hotel. A wonderful evening with loads of good craic.

The craic was 90 at our meeting this week as PP Pat Lewis delivered a presentation to celebrate St Patrick's Day. Green was the colour of the evening as the presentation featured some of the magnificent scenery of Ireland and it's music, language and culture. Even our Exchange students featured enjoying the night learning about another new country and featuring in the presentation

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to us!! Recently our club celebrated our 50th Birthday and the granting of our club charter from the Rotary Club of Woy Woy on 20th January 1976 and subsequent first meeting on February 26 1976. The venue was beautifully decorated and filled with current and past members, members of the Rotary Clubs of Woy Woy and Brisbane Water, family and club friends, and distinguished guests. Local member, Liesl Tesch, was guest of honour while Gosford Town Crier, Stephen Clarke, provided a unique proclamation of congratulations and a bugle heralding of the event. Presentations of Paul Harris Fellowships were also presented to several wonderful guests in honour of their long community service.

Rotary Youth Exchange was front and centre at our meeting this week where we had FOUR such students joining us. Our speaker for the evening was our wonderful Amelia (Milly) Hayes who has recently arrived home from Brasil where she spent last year on her exchanged. Millie gave us a great illustrated presentation on many of her experiences throughout the year and thanked the club for this life changing experience. Joining her on the night were her brother, Beau ( to Austria in 2019), Ella Burk ( inbound this year from Germany), and Ana Luisa Rocha (inbound this year from Brasil)

At this week's meeting our club hosted an outstanding young woman and athlete, Ashley Pernecker. Ashley is the granddaughter of PP Robert Meyer and wife, Wendy. She began her love affair with athletics, particularly running, at age 8 and has excelled ever since, spurred on by her coach, Tom Ristuccia and her own belief and determination. Through success at Region, State and Australian Championships, Ashley was selected in the Australian Under 23 team for the Oceanic Cup in Tonga last year where she was placed 1st in the 800 meters and the 400 meters hurdles, and 2nd in the 400 meters. A brilliant effort from a brilliant young woman. Congratulations Ashley!

She's BAAAAACK! Our wonderful outbound Exchange Student, Millie Hayes, to Brazil, is now back home with her family and our club after her exhilarating 12 months adventure. Experiencing a new family life, going to school, learning about Brazilian culture and sharing Australia's culture, exploring the Amazon, making new international friends and much more filled Millie's days and we can't wait to hear all about it. She is now again enjoying home life and returning to Year 11 at school. WELCOME HOME MILLIE!!

Our club made a relaxed start to the new year at the home of PP Robert Meyer. Only problem was that we had to cook our own meal! The dish? A Mongolian BBQ pick your own ingredients and stir fry. A challenge for some but new skills were demonstrated.

It's very high up there and you can't see all the way back to Germany, but our Exchange Student, Ella, had the time of her life scaling Sydney's Harbour Bridge with her host father Paul and host sister Alaya as a birthday gift from our club. Fortunately it was a beautiful day providing memories she will never forget. Happy birthday Ella.
