Yesterday, Sunday June 14th, the rain stopped at 1.45pm just in time for our 2pm Club Social Pickleball Session. Our synthetic grass courts have excellent built-in drainage, so there was no danger of it being slippery to play on. After a few games, Barbara said she could hear a Lyrebird close by and that it was making all sorts of noises including the song of a butcher bird. Some of us snuck around the back of the clubhouse, and there, about 25 feet away, was a male Lyrebird serenading his intended girlfriend. I managed to get this video (slightly obscured by the foliage) of his courtship display. I hope he was successful, because next time he might include the pick pock of pickleball into his repertoire. My goodness, video and sound of that would go viral! We are so blessed at Pearl Beach Tennis and Recreation Club. Play often stops while we observe the local wildlife which includes echidas, wallabies, yellow tailed cockatoos, goannas, and diamond pythons.
