We’re now almost a week on from our Community Day, and with the dust having settled, it’s time to properly acknowledge the incredible efforts of our Events & Committee Team.

What an absolutely phenomenal effort to pull together such a huge day for the Woodend Eagles.
Across the day, the team helped deliver:

🎶 Supporting the Woodend Warblers
❤️ And creating a welcoming and positive experience for our players, families and wider community.

And that’s just what people saw.
There was plenty happening behind the scenes before, during and after the day to make it all work.
The Community Day was a massive undertaking, and it simply wouldn’t have happened without people putting their hands up, giving their time and getting stuck in.
So, almost a week later, we want to say a very genuine:

And thank you to everyone else who contributed along the way.
Sometimes you’re so busy making an event happen that you don’t get a chance to stop and appreciate just how much work went into it.

🦅 BUWATJ | FINAL GAME OF THE SEASON ⚽

And just like that, our Buwatj U8s have played their final game of the season. 💚🖤
What a season it has been.
As their Coach, I couldn’t be more proud of what this group of players has achieved. From the skills they have learned and the confidence they have developed, to the way they have embraced the values of Effort, Attitude and Teamwork, it has been an absolute pleasure to watch every one of them grow throughout the season.
There have been plenty of goals, tackles, saves, passes and celebrations along the way, but what has stood out most is the joy they bring to playing football. They love being out there, trying new things, playing with their teammates and, perhaps most importantly, they often don’t want to stop when the final whistle goes. 😂⚽
Watching them continue to kick the ball around and play together even after the match has finished is something that should be embraced. That pure enjoyment of the game is what football is all about. 💚
A massive thank you to Assistant Coach Mike for your support throughout the season, to Ground Marshall Jason, and to Team Manager Olivia for everything you have done behind the scenes to keep our team organised and supported. 👏
And to all our Buwatj parents and caregivers, thank you. Your encouragement, support, and commitment each week has made such a difference. The kids are incredibly lucky to have such a wonderful group behind them.
A special thank you also to Referee Angus. The Eagles have developed such a strong connection with Angus, and he has been fantastic in helping our young players learn and understand the game. His encouragement, patience and willingness to explain the game to the kids has been a wonderful part of their season. 🦅👏
Most importantly, to our Buwatj players, I hope you are as proud of yourselves as I am of you. 💚
It has been an absolute pleasure to coach you and watch you develop, not just as footballers, but as teammates and young people.

FROM MASTERPLAN TO MATCH DAY ⚽

Football Victoria’s "Level the Playing Field" campaign is calling for the investment needed to ensure football facilities across Victoria keep pace with the game's rapid growth, while the recent tabling of the campaign’s parliamentary petition demonstrated the strength of the football community’s united voice for better grassroots infrastructure.

Woodend Eagles Soccer Club proudly supports this advocacy and has championed the delivery of the Woodend Racecourse Reserve Masterplan and the long-term benefits it will bring to our community.

As one of a number of current and future service users of the precinct, Woodend Eagles Soccer Club would directly benefit from the realization of the Masterplan, which will help provide the facilities, capacity and infrastructure needed to support growing participation and community sport.

After a fantastic first season in the Football Victoria Greater Bendigo, our U12s have earned their place in an Elimination Final against Golden City FC.

🦅 FOOTBALL COMMUNITY | PRACTICE & DEVELOPMENT ⚽️

A really special part of our Woodend Eagles Soccer Club Community Day was having Gemma Groenewegen, Coordinator – Diversity, Equity & Inclusion at Football Victoria, Emily Dolzan, Head of Growth & Programs at Football Victoria, and Jack Shipway, Healthy Communities Coordinator at Melbourne Victory, join us at Buffalo Stadium.
It was a great opportunity to share what we’ve been working towards in our first year in the Football Victoria Greater Bendigo League, including our focus on creating an inclusive, welcoming and community-minded football club.
Just as importantly, it was an opportunity for us to listen and learn.
At the Eagles, we believe forming genuine relationships across the football community is incredibly important. It allows us to learn from others, seek to model best practice, challenge ourselves to keep improving, and ensure that what we are building is sustainable for our players, families, coaches and volunteers.
We also want to create pathways for our young Eagles, pathways that allow them to see where football can take them, whether that’s as a player, coach, referee, volunteer or leader within our game.
Our Community Day was about much more than football matches. It was about community, connection, learning and creating opportunities for the future.
We’re only one year into our Football Victoria journey, and there’s still plenty to learn. But days like this remind us that we don’t have to do it alone.

🦅💙 WOODEND EAGLES x MELBOURNE VICTORY | CLUB VICTORY 2026/27 💙🦅

The Woodend Eagles Soccer Club is proud to continue our relationship with Melbourne Victory, signing on to Club Victory for the 2026/27 season.
At our Community Day this weekend, we were delighted to welcome Melbourne Victory Healthy Communities Coordinator Jack Shipway to Buffalo Stadium.
It was terrific to connect with Jack, share more about the Eagles and discuss the opportunities that come from our ongoing partnership with Melbourne Victory.
We’re particularly excited about the potential of a pilot Dads & Daughters program, an initiative designed to bring families together through football and create more opportunities for girls and women to enjoy and engage with the game. ⚽💙
Jack brings a wealth of knowledge and experience from his roles across football in both NSW and Victoria, and is currently President of Footscray Rangers Football Club.
We’re so glad Jack was able to visit us, meet our Eagles community and see firsthand what we’re building at Woodend.
We’re looking forward to another great year of partnership with Melbourne Victory and to seeing where it takes us. 🦅💙

🦅💚 OUR CLUB SONG | EAGLES BORN TO SOAR 💚🦅

One of the wonderful highlights of our Community Day was seeing our young Eagles come together to debut something truly special, our Woodend Eagles club song, “Eagles Born to Soar.” 🦅🎶
A huge thank you to the Woodend Warblers for supporting our club and helping bring this moment to life.
Led by Andrew Price, the Community Choir taught our young Eagles the song, and then stood alongside them as they sang it together.
There was something pretty special about hearing our young players singing their own club song, proudly, loudly and together. 💚
We are building a club and forging an identity.
A club isn’t just about what happens on the pitch. It’s about the traditions we create, the people who come together, and the moments that become part of our shared story.
The debut of Eagles Born to Soar was one of those moments.
Thank you to the Woodend Warblers, Andrew Price and the Community Choir for helping us create a memory that our young Eagles will carry with them.
