Everyone is diagnosing a “dysregulated nervous system” these days - so here’s the version without the jargon.
You know that feeling when you can’t relax even though you’re not doing anything?
Or when you’re tired but wired?
Or when you collapse on the coach after a hectic day and now you can’t make dinner?
Or when you feel so tired that you’re stuck in bed and you can’t get up.
Or when suddenly you’re yelling at your partner because they looked at you funny.
These are all examples of when your nervous system is not regulated (aka dysregulated) - you’re not feeling as calm, playful, at rest or peaceful as you would like - something is just a bit off.
This is totally normal. It is not possible for us to be regulated at all times.
Deregulation isn’t bad. It’s not something to panic about fixing.
Sometimes our body & mind gets a bit stuck and needs a gentle reminder to shift out of that state. We can do this through regulation tools like deep breaths, mindfulness, a walk in nature and grounding.
Just remember a healthy nervous system moves through all different states and feelings throughout the day and week - this is normal and doesn’t mean you are doing anything wrong if you are “dysregulated” today.
