Finally made it back to acro this week!
Thanks to covid, I haven't been to any acro classes or jams for 3 years but this week the stars aligned for me to get back to classes with the amazing .
Sure, I was rusty and much of it was a struggle but I reconnected with some awesome humans, met some new acro badasses and had great fun! No matter how much skill (I wasnt that skilled in the first place) and confidence I had lost through lack of practice, it was great to play and explore in such an embracing, non judgemental environment! Sarah and the crew that she attracts are an amazing bunch!!
I'm proud of myself for maintaining boundaries I set, to keep my confidence intact, and for giving myself grace when things didn't go right the first (or 2nd or 3rd or 4th...) time. These are the skills that acro helps me with, just as much as learning the moves. I'm definitely sticking to basing only for a while because just getting back there is pushing close enough to the edge of comfort zone for me right now and flying is a step over the line. I'm going to try and consistently get to class where I can because the acro high is just what I needed to put a smile on my face!! 🫠

Today is IDAHOBIT Day.
What is IDAHOBIT?
It is the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Interphobia and Transphobia. It is a day to come together to support our LGBTQIA+ friends and communities. Every human being has the right to feel safe, loved, and free to be themselves.
Why am I posting about IDAHOBIT 2023?
I am an ally and I run an inclusive movement space where I want everyone to feel welcome and safe. The only rules I have are that you must be kind to yourself and others and you must keep the space safe for yourself and others. If you can follow these two simple rules, you're welcome to come and move and get strong with me!
Let's make a world where everyone can be their own awesome selves! Where we can learn from and enjoy each other and we can help others to feel safe, loved and free!

Nursing is not what you do, but who you are! Whilst nursing may not be my main career anymore, it will always be the essence of who I am! Nurses have to be strong and resilient, yet soft and compassionate. Nursing is a true blend of art and science. The work is hard and the reward is not seen in a generous pay package or good working conditions. I feel for my nursing friends and colleagues who constantly have to battle for the respect they deserve and work thousands of unpaid hours just because it is a caring profession so easy to take advantage of. That said, reward is found in the moments of joy in a patient's journey, the comfort of the dying and their family, the enthusiasm and zest of the new nurse eager to learn.....the reward is in the moments where you realise this is why you are a nurse! Happy International Nurses day to my colleagues and friends here in 🇦🇺 and back in the UK 🇬🇧 where I spent most of my career. I will always be grateful for the lessons nursing teaches me and the fabulous people I meet. Thank you to nurses who mentored me over the years and to nurses I mentored. You all taught me so much! Just know that you can do anything you want in life and nursing has given you skills and knowledge that will help you be a good human, no matter what your job title may be!

Today is International No Diet Day (INDD).
It was started by Mary Evans Young, a British feminist author in 1992. It is an internationally recognised campaign to embrace body diversity, reject weight stigma and stand up against diet culture. As a weight neutral strength and movement coach I came here to say, why not use today to break up with diet culture!

Dieting is the single biggest behavioural risk factor for developing an eating disorder. Diet culture perpetuates the idea that thinness=wellness and the toxic notion that our weight/size dictates our worth. The weight loss industry makes millions of $$$$ from making people feel unworthy. Diet culture shows up everywhere (media, advertising, social groups, interactions with family/friends) and is rooted in racism, misogyny and capitalism!

Let's say no to:
❌️intentional weight loss
❌️fat phobia and discrimination
❌️weight stigma (especially in healthcare)
❌️food shame/guilt
❌️cutting out foods you love
❌️feeling guilty about your cultural foods
❌️putting money into the weight loss industry
❌️judging others based on their size
❌️making fun of people in larger bodies
❌️missing out on activities due to body image
❌️determining worth by scale weight, clothing size or before/after photos

Let's say YES to
✅️weight neutrality
✅️body acceptance
✅️embracing diversity
✅️enjoying our favourite foods
✅️enjoying a varied diet
✅️eating for enjoyment
✅️embracing activities regardless of body size
✅️enjoying an active lifestyle
✅️equitable access to healthcare
✅️welcoming people in larger bodies
✅️being kind to ourselves
✅️taking the photos, making the memories and having lots of fun!

Today is international no diet day but let's make every day no diet day!! If you are interested in celebrating your body through strength training or healing your relationship with movement in a weight neutral, anti diet way then shoot me a message! I have a few 1:1 coaching spots available and online programming if you prefer.
