Last night we celebrated a milestone in our club’s history with the very first women’s football team trophy night.

One of the highlights was the presentation of the Best & Fairest Medal, which has now been named in honour of one of our club legends, Sharon Buhlmann. Sharon’s dedication and invaluable contributions have shaped our club in countless ways, and it is fitting that her name will forever be linked to this prestigious award.

Although Sharon was unable to attend in person, we extend our heartfelt thanks to Robert Brereton for stepping in to present the medal on her behalf.

Huge congratulations to Gabby Rodda on being named the club’s Best & Fairest for 2025 season.

Last Saturday night was the kind of game that showed exactly who we are. The girls fought for absolutely everything from the first bounce – pressure, physical contests and four quarters of never giving up. The wind swung, lightning flickered around Whyalla and the whole night felt like a proper finals battle.

They went goal for goal and after the fourth quarter time it was 2.4 each. Extra time came, then another round of extra time, and our girls were running on pure heart. With 20 seconds left, West Augusta found a single point. One point. The only score in all of overtime, and the thing that ended our season.

A one point loss in double overtime is as tough as it gets – but we are so proud of the girls effort, the fight and the way they represented our club. What a first year achievement 💙

On Saturday, we proudly attended the Whyalla Women’s Football League Dinner, a night of recognition, connection, and celebration.

A huge congratulations to our inaugural women’s team for their incredible efforts this season, and to the award winners who were honoured on the night. Your dedication, teamwork, and spirit have paved the way for future generations.

GABBY RODDA THE SUPERSTAR SPORTSWOMAN FROM WHYALLA HAS JUST WON THE LEVERINGTON MEDAL PLAYING FOR ROOPENA

Gabby Rodda, is a superstar sportswoman in Whyalla. And tonight, she has won the Leverington Medal as the best and fairest player in the WFL Women's competition. Playing for the Roopena Football Club Women’s .

Gabby was also selected in the TEAM OF THE YEAR as the vice-captain.

Gabby Rodda, is actively involved in the Roopena Football & Sporting Club. A multi-sports club, based in Whyalla.

In the women’s team for Roopena, she serves as a captain (co-captain of the A-grade team). A great leader for women's sport in Whyalla, and for Roopena. She also holds a leadership role off-field, as the club president of the senior women’s football committee.

During netball season, Gabby Rodda plays in A-Grade for the Roopena Netball Club in the Whyalla Netball Association

Gabby Rodda, was also named Women’s A-Grade MVP in the Whyalla Basketball Association in 2023.
