The Queensland State Masters Championships at Wyaralong sparked a wild weekend with tough weather challenges on Saturday leading to glorious victories on Sunday. Our crews won 8 gold medals, a testament to their dedication and perseverance. We're keen to carry this momentum to the NSW Masters Championships.
Well done team!

Brisbane & GPS congratulates two of the club's stalwarts, Janine Reid and Andrew McNicol, on their election to life membership at the club's annual general meeting. Janine, a member since 2010 and a member of the management committee from soon after, has been club captain for the past five years and the club's most successful Masters competitor. Andrew joined in 2002 and has managed the club's learn-to-row program for the past 20 years as well as coaching various squads and holding several administration positions.

Congratulations to the Queensland men's eight who won the King's Cup interstate race at the Australian Rowing Championships at Lake Barrington today. The crew was coxed by Tom Shaw who we are so proud of. Tom has been a regular at the club through the years, supporting his mum Rose, a senior member, and other club crews. Way to go Tom! It was the first time that Queensland had won the King's Cup in 87 years.

Outstanding achievement to our girls who secured gold at the Australian Rowing Championships in the U174x+ category, competing in a composite crew with St Patrick's and Cathedral School Townsville. Lucinda Staley (three seat), Saskia Schmidt (two seat) and Zoe Walker (cox) combined with Zoe Webster (Cathedral School) and Harrison Park (St Patrick's). Lucinda, Saskia and Zoe are from the junior squad coached through the summer season by Nigel Stubbs.

Kudos for Brisbane & GPS club’s junior contingent who foraged successfully for medals and acquitted themselves so well across the board at the State titles. Though small in numbers with only 10 athletes entered but working with Townsville visitors to build big boats, the squad came home with two gold, one silver and one bronze medal from nine events contested. Congratulations to our medal winners: Saskia Schmidt and Lucinda Staley (two gold, a silver and bronze each), and Amelia Watkins and Zoe Walker (two gold and a silver each). All competitors from the club gained valuable experience racing in finals. The club thanks the coaches Nigel Stubbs, Georgie Pryor, Dave Christmas and Andy Botting for their efforts with our developing young rowers during the summer.

From Christmases past . . . Brisbane & GPS crews gather for a group photo during the club's Christmas row in 2010. The photo is taken from the book “A Tale of Two Clubs”, the history of the Brisbane Rowing Club since 1875 and the GPS Rowing Club since 1925, published this year to celebrate the sesquicentenary and centenary of the merged club. Merry Christmas everyone.
