How my Plantar Fascia is going!
I've been dealing with plantar fascia pain for the last 2–3 months. I've been doing lots of experiments to work out what helps and what doesn't, and I promised the occasional update, so here is one.
My foot is still sore, but it's a bit more up and down than it was a month ago. I now have a few tricks up my sleeve that can help it settle down. The most surprising one for me has been the massage gun.
I'm still doing the three-minute morning stretch every day.
You can watch it on YouTube (copy and paste this link) (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d_qt4WXvqRk&t=21s),
plus getting a spiky ball into my calf and foot most days.
Over the last couple of weeks I've added 10–15 minutes with the massage gun into my calf muscle, the peroneals (on the outside of the calf), and directly into the arch of my foot around the heel where the plantar fascia attaches.
The massage gun genuinely feels like it's making a difference. I've found some really painful trigger points in my calf, and spending 2–3 minutes working on those has often made my foot feel noticeably better the following morning.
It's worth noting that my pain came on gradually, so I'm pretty sure I'm dealing with plantar fasciosis rather than an acute tear. If you've just torn your plantar fascia and the pain came on suddenly, then direct massage into the area probably isn't going to make it very happy.
Do you have any questions about plantar fascia pain, or any tips that have worked for you?
