Something we don’t talk about enough in Salsa…

We get so caught up in being a good lead. A good follow. Doing it right. Nailing the technique. Making our partner look good.

And somewhere in all of that, we disappear from the dance.

This weekend was a reminder for me that the role is just the framework. Your expression, your relationship with the music, your personality, that’s what makes the dance alive. 😍

You’re allowed to be in it. Not just executing it.

Lead well. Follow well. But don’t forget to show up too. 💃🕺✨

Salsa is not a sequence of steps.

It’s a conversation.

And like any great conversation, it only works when both people know how to listen, how to respond, and how to hold space for the other person to speak.

Most dancers spend years learning words without ever learning the language.

They know the moves. They can follow the pattern. But something still feels... off. Disconnected. Like they’re dancing at each other instead of with each other.

That’s not a steps problem. That’s a structure problem.

When you understand the real roles of lead and follow - not just mechanically, but energetically - everything changes. The connection deepens. The improvisation opens up. The dance starts to feel like it was always meant to feel. 😍

A little update from me 👋

As many of you know, I’ve made the move to Coffs Harbour and weekly classes are no longer running. But the dancing isn’t over! 🙌

Over the years what I’ve loved most about teaching isn’t just the steps - it’s watching people grow. In confidence, in expression, in how they carry themselves on and off the dance floor. That’s the work I want to go deeper with. 😍

I’m still available for private coaching - and if you’ve ever wanted to work on more than just technique, moves, and content, this is your invitation. Whether it’s your connection, your confidence or how you move & express yourself through dance, I’d love to work with you one on one. 🎉
