Saturday 20 August. Scorpions vs Wakehurst Lions at Boondah Reserve.

The final match of the season saw the kids raring to go and ready to make the most of their last 30 minutes of play. The scorpions team one saw some tough opposition in their last match of the season, and it will probably go down as one of the best. The Lions were a very skillful team, and the scorpions needed to be on fine form, which luckily they were. All of the players settled into their usual positions, with Eva and Mia up front, Dan in defence, and Zac and Cameron in midfield. There was some great football being played by everybody, with excellent passing and solo efforts. Zac scored a great long shot just before half time but the lions surged into a 3-1 lead. The second half was very closely fought but with a lot of grit and determination, and with the aid of the longest second half in soccer history, the scorpions managed to score 2 late goals and equalize, to the delight of the crowd. Final score 3-3.
Team two were a little slow of the mark but they picked up pace against the Lions who were a worthy opponent. The Lions were quick to score with a scrabble by the team securing their first and second goals within the first few minutes of play. The Scorpions responded, and some magnificent passing by Eamon and Xander resulted in a goal for the home team. The away team kept the pressure on the Scorpions, but a save by Xander and some solid defensive play by Jake and Tim denied the Lions another goal. The 2nd half started with a bang, the Lions taking a 4th goal almost from the opening ball, but Blake was on fire, with a run from one end of the pitch to the other followed by another goal for the home team. The battle continued through the final 5 minutes of play, seeing both teams take a goal each (including a 2nd for Blake!). A fitting end to the season, the score line being a close 5 – 3 to the opposition.

Saturday 13 August - Scorpions vs Pittwater RSL Devils

Team one had a tough match on their hands today. The Pittwater RSL Devils were quick off the mark with a goal scored just 1 minute into the first half. Xander fought back hard almost equalising a few moments later but the Devils were on the attack, the Scorpions conceding 3 more before Xander blasted a goal home for the Beenies. Some amazing defence saw Daniel and Eamon stop a 5th goal from the opposing team, but the Devils proved too stronger force taking the 5th goal in the 10th minute. The second half saw the Scorpions regroup and team had a renewed energy. Jake, Cameron and Daniel did their utmost to defend against the Devils attack, and Eamon fought on through numerous injuries, finally being rewarded with a goal for the Scorpions. A continuing solid attack by the Devils saw the final score line 10 -2 to the Pittwater RSL.

Team two were locked into a great battle with the Devils. It was end to end stuff all match with the spectators literally on the edges of their seats. Eva and Mia formed a great strike team with lots of great passing between the girls that saw them score all 3 of our goals between them. Zac and blake offered solid support on the wing, with Tim playing a cracker of a match, even finding time to show off some fancy footwork and fighting on through a few heavy hits, earning him the player of the week. Final score 3 all.

Player of the week went to Eamon and Tim – good work lads!
