Kudos Health KUDOS ~ "Praise for exceptional achievement" Hi there! Thanks for taking the time - my name is Mick and I’m grateful you’re here. Everything else is white noise.

My personal mission statement is to help people create healthier and happier lives. I work with both individual and corporate clients to help them elevate their physical and mental wellbeing. My late Pop used to make a toast before every meal ~ “Cheers to health and happiness” At the time I would roll my eyes and think to myself “here we go again”. However, as time has passed I’ve learnt that Pop

was onto something - because at the end of the day our health and happiness, and the health and happiness of our loved ones are all that really matter. I’d love the opportunity to hear your story, and if we’re a good fit - the opportunity to work with you or your organisation. SERVICES PROVIDED:

I’ve just started watching the doco “Limitless” on Disney+ with Chris Hemsworth and honestly… I’m bloody loving it.

It’s such a powerful reminder of how incredible the human mind and body are, and how much more we’re capable of than we often give ourselves credit for.

One of the big themes throughout the series is discomfort.

Chris puts himself through some pretty extreme stuff, but the real takeaway isn’t about doing wild, crazy challenges. It’s about how even small, intentional discomforts can build resilience and actually support healthier ageing and longevity.

The show explores how things like controlled cold exposure and pushing our physical limits can ⤵️
▪️ Improve stress tolerance and mental resilience
▪️ Support cardiovascular health and metabolic function
▪️ Build confidence in our ability to handle challenges

The good news here is that we don’t need to swim 250m in 2 degree water in the Norwegian Arctic!! 🥶

Some simple, everyday ways to choose discomfort might look like ⤵️
▪️ Taking the stairs instead of the lift
▪️ Finishing your shower with 30 seconds of cold water
▪️ Having a conversation you’ve been avoiding
▪️ Going for a walk without your phone or headphones
▪️ Sitting with a difficult emotion instead of distracting yourself

None of these are life-changing on their own.
But consistently choosing manageable discomfort quietly teaches the mind and body: I can handle this.

And that’s usually where growth, confidence and resilience live - just on the other side of discomfort.

I used to start my day by: wake up and go.

Alarm.
Feet hit the floor.
Coffee.
Check emails & social media.
Race out the door.

Now I start my day by: wake up and stop.

Before the phone.
Before the noise.
Before the rush.

I sit and do 5 minutes of breath work.
Nothing fancy, no pretzel-like position required. Just enough to slow my nervous system down.

Then I ask myself three simple but powerful questions:
• What am I grateful for?
• What am I most looking forward to today?
• What is the most important task I need to achieve?

This tiny pause changes everything.

I’m more grounded.
More focused.
Less reactive once the workday kicks off.

It’s not about adding more to my morning.
It’s about being intentional before the day (whatever it may bring) gets a chance to take the reins.

Wake up and stop - even just for five minutes.

It’s a game changer!

James is much more successful than me.
Sarah’s house is way bigger than ours.
Garry is so much fitter than I am.
Mia earns more than I do.

Comparison really is the thief of joy ☠️

New year, new goals… and before we know it we’re scrolling, benchmarking, and often subconsciously measuring ourselves against everyone else’s highlight reel.

Their promotion.
Their business growth.
Their fitness routine.
Their “perfect” balance.

It sucks!
But a lot of us do it whether we’d admit it or not.

I know I certainly do.
Nowhere near as much as I used to however.

The thing is though that you’re not meant to run their race.

Professionally and personally, real progress happens when you stay in your own lane:

✔️ Focus on your strengths
✔️ Work on your gaps
✔️ Celebrate your wins (even the small ones like going for that short walk)
✔️ Grow at a pace that actually suits your life

This year, I’m choosing less comparison and more intention.

Less noise.
More clarity.
Less looking sideways.
More looking forward.

🏃🏽‍➡️ Run your own race.
🎾 Play your own game.
🎯 Focus on growing as an individual.

Not a bad spot at all for our first face-to-face coaching session with a new client ☀️

His wife actually reached out to me after seeing him struggle with sleep, stress and some consistent negative thinking.

That context mattered - which is exactly why I chose to meet here for session one.

Environment matters more than we think.

Today was about listening. A lot of it.
And yes… I took A LOT of notes 📝

Together we mapped out a simple, actionable 7-day game plan.

Nothing overwhelming.
Nothing extreme.
Just small, intentional actions aimed at taking back a bit of control - especially around thoughts, routines and daily choices.

Sometimes progress starts with slowing down and being deliberate.

Looking forward to hearing how the week unfolds 👊🏼

🎧 One of my fav podcasts is called “The Imperfects”.

The podcast explores mental health, vulnerability and what it really means to be human - flaws and all.

I listened to an episode yesterday featuring The Imperfects’ resident psychologist ~ Dr Em, where she said that boundaries are the root of self-care.

It got me thinking about my own life and how essential boundaries are for protecting my wellbeing - and how just as critical they are in our work lives too.

We can offer mental health days, EAPs and mindfulness apps - all great things, but if people feel they have to be “on” all the time, none of it really works in the long run.

Boundaries at work can look like ⤵️
✅ Actually taking your lunch break
✅ Logging off when the workday ends
✅ Not feeling pressure to respond immediately
✅ Taking leave without guilt
✅ Being able to say “this is too much” and actually be heard

Without boundaries, burnout isn’t a personal failure - it’s a system issue, and it isn’t a matter of “if” it will occur - it’s a matter of “when”.

The episode was a great reminder that employee wellbeing isn’t just about supporting people when they’re already struggling - it’s about creating cultures where people don’t have to constantly push past their limits to be seen as committed.

Leaders matter here more than they realise.
What they model becomes the norm.

Respecting boundaries isn’t lowering the bar - it’s how people stay well, engaged and able to do great work over time.

I don’t reckon calm gets enough credit.

We celebrate hustle.
We reward urgency.
We mistake busyness with productivity.

But the people who consistently make the best decisions both at work and in life - tend to be the calmest ones in the room.

Calm really is a superpower.

One that by no means do I consistently display. It is however, a skill that I actively practise every day as I appreciate its powerful impact.

It lets you ⤵️
✅ Respond instead of react
✅ Listen without preparing your comeback
✅ Think clearly when everything feels messy
✅ Create psychological safety for the people around you

In the workplace, calm leaders don’t escalate chaos - they absorb it.

At home calm keeps small moments from turning into big problems… did someone say “parenting hack!”

One of the best things I believe - and I find great comfort in this - is that calm isn’t a personality trait.

It’s a practice.

A few simple ways to build it ⤵️
✅ Pause for just one deep breath before replying to anything that you find triggering
✅ Slow your physical movements when you feel rushed (your nervous system follows your body)
✅ Lower your voice instead of raising it - even when you feel justified (did someone say parenting….)
✅ Put space between stimulus and response: “I’ll get back to you” is a VERY powerful sentence

You don’t have to be unbothered.
You don’t have to be passive.

You just have to be steady.

In a world addicted to speed and noise, calm is rare - and rare skills are valuable.

Not only do the team at Strategic Group quite possibly have the best office outlook in Newcastle - they’re also a great bunch to work with.

When leadership kicks things off with an opening address like the one we had before this workshop, it’s crystal clear that employee wellbeing is taken seriously.

And honestly, I’ve never had such an engaged group.

They were all in - asking questions, sharing insights and really leaning into the content to gain a greater understanding.

We explored some pretty impactful topics including: ⤵️

✅ Mindfulness and how it helps us manage stress
✅ The art of creating healthier habits (plus a practical framework to make them stick)
✅ The surprisingly powerful impact of consistently practising gratitude

What an uplifting, energising way to wrap up my wellbeing workshops for 2025 🚀

If you’d like more info or want to chat about wellbeing initiatives for your team - I’d love to connect.

I used to think gratitude at work was a bit fluffy and soft to be honest.

Nice of course, but not exactly essential.
Turns out, I was wrong.

Gratitude isn’t fluff - it’s fuel.
The research behind it is pretty convincing too.

When gratitude becomes interwoven into the day to day operations of the team, the ripple effects are huge ⤵️

🛌 People actually sleep better
Lower stress = deeper, more restorative rest

🌱 The work environment gets healthier
A culture of appreciation creates teams that feel safe, supported and motivated

🤝 Relationships improve
Saying “I appreciate you” goes a bloody long way in strengthening trust and communication. Don’t underestimate this!

🔒 Retention increases
Employees who feel valued are far more likely to stay - and stay engaged!

🎯 A greater sense of fulfilment
Gratitude boosts purpose, meaning and overall job satisfaction

😊 Happiness rises
Focusing on what’s working improves daily mood and wellbeing

⚡ Energy, resilience and focus sharpen
A grateful mindset supports clearer thinking and greater emotional strength

🧠 Anxiety and low mood decrease
Gratitude helps shift attention toward positive experiences, supporting better mental health

In a world where organisations are looking for smarter, more human ways to support employee wellbeing…

Gratitude might be one of the simplest, most effective yet most overlooked tools we have.

Not fluffy.
Just powerful.

“This will end and there is nothing you can do about it.”

A client of mine recently shared this quote with me, saying it’s been a real source of comfort.

At first, I wasn’t sure how to take it. But as she explained, it made perfect sense.

For her, it’s not about giving up - it’s about remembering that every moment, even the really crappy ones, eventually comes to an end.

She told me she’s spent most of her life in “survival mode”.

Just waking up, getting through the day, ticking off even the smallest tasks - that’s taken real effort. Real courage. And she’s starting to recognise that as a win.

Now she’s slowly learning how to care for herself in ways she never really had space for before - honouring her time, listening to her body and being kinder to her mind.

In the process, she’s noticing tiny glimmers of joy creeping in. Quiet moments of peace she didn’t expect to feel.

And when the hard days hit - and of course they still do - that quote brings her comfort.

Because nothing lasts forever.
Not the overwhelm.
Not the intensity.
Not the fear.
It all shifts, eventually.

Sometimes we don’t need a big plan or a big change. Sometimes, we just need a breath, a pause and a reminder that this moment isn’t permanent.

If you’re in a tough season, remember just like the good times - it will pass.

Impermanence will inevitably prevail.

You’ve survived 100% of the challenges life has thrown your way. This one will be no different

A key to my mental wellbeing strategy ⤵️

Drip-feeding relaxers or nourishing activities throughout my day.

These activities vary but often include such things as:
- Exercise
- Mindfulness / meditation
- Spending time outdoors
- Practising gratitude
- Making time to laugh
- Being a kid with my kids

This morning was about as nourishing as it gets.

My son craves routine and structure… I have no idea where he gets it 🙄

This morning however he wanted to head to the beach before school.

Moments like this I live for.

I watched him laugh and play.
I felt the sand beneath my feet and the cool water on my skin.
I listened to the ocean gently do its thing.
I felt the feelings of gratitude and pure joy flood my body.

It was f@c£ing glorious!!

If you’re not already, I would highly recommend the following:
- Write down some simple, accessible activities that nourish or relax you
- Drip-feed them throughout your EVERY day
- When you do in fact get to them in your day - be as mindful as possible and soak up every millisecond

Happy Tuesday all ✌🏼
