I’ve just started watching the doco “Limitless” on Disney+ with Chris Hemsworth and honestly… I’m bloody loving it.
It’s such a powerful reminder of how incredible the human mind and body are, and how much more we’re capable of than we often give ourselves credit for.
One of the big themes throughout the series is discomfort.
Chris puts himself through some pretty extreme stuff, but the real takeaway isn’t about doing wild, crazy challenges. It’s about how even small, intentional discomforts can build resilience and actually support healthier ageing and longevity.
The show explores how things like controlled cold exposure and pushing our physical limits can ⤵️
▪️ Improve stress tolerance and mental resilience
▪️ Support cardiovascular health and metabolic function
▪️ Build confidence in our ability to handle challenges
The good news here is that we don’t need to swim 250m in 2 degree water in the Norwegian Arctic!! 🥶
Some simple, everyday ways to choose discomfort might look like ⤵️
▪️ Taking the stairs instead of the lift
▪️ Finishing your shower with 30 seconds of cold water
▪️ Having a conversation you’ve been avoiding
▪️ Going for a walk without your phone or headphones
▪️ Sitting with a difficult emotion instead of distracting yourself
None of these are life-changing on their own.
But consistently choosing manageable discomfort quietly teaches the mind and body: I can handle this.
And that’s usually where growth, confidence and resilience live - just on the other side of discomfort.
