Training on holiday is one of my favourite things to do and not for the reason you might think…

When you don’t have to work..

Can sleep a full night..

Have low levels of stress...

You are a different beast in terms of how hard and how long you can train for.

In contrast…

When your kids aren’t sleeping..

You have massive work stress...

Family stress...

There are days were you are going to feel pretty useless in the gym.

This doesn’t mean you should skip your training and wait for the perfect time…

…because if you’re out of shape it’s going to make everything in your life WAYYY worse.

But it’s to give yourself a little bit of leeway if you’re the type to be hard on yourself about not smashing every session

It’s why I personally like to use wearables that quantify your level of recovery (like Whoop bands) because you can see how stressed/under-recovered your body is and train accordingly.

The goal with training is always consistency.

The intensity of how you train each session will just depend on your levels of stress outside of the gym.

High levels of stress from all the external factors in life zap your recovery, your ability to push hard, and your energy to use in the gym.

It’s why training as a busy professional is way more inspiring to me personally than any professional where their whole day revolves around training and recovery!

Last few weeks I signed up for a jiu-jitsu tournament and had a pool trip booked.

Wanted to lean up a bit for both.

Not photoshoot or get on a bodybuilding stage lean, just lean enough where I feel confident walking around shirtless.

I didn't have to overhaul anything to do this before you ask.

I didn't suddenly find discipline I'd been missing.

I just had to dial in a few things that were already 80% there.

Added a little more cardio.

Began to lean out my meals a little and skip the after dinner snacks.

That's the actual point of having your habits in check.

It's not that you're always super shredded, always tracking your calories, and always training every day.

It's that when you need to tighten up, the rate of change is so relatively small that it's easy (especially in our busy world where our capacity for change is small).

The problem is...

Most people who want to drop a few kilos fast can't,

Because there's no baseline to dial in.

No consistent training,

No protein intake,

No balanced meals,

No idea what they're eating on a normal week.

So "lean up for an event" becomes a failing attempt at a life overhaul.

If your foundations are solid, dropping a few kg is a tweak, not a transformation.

This is exactly how I train people.

We build foundations so solid that even in the busy, chaotic periods, nothing falls apart.

Then when life gives you a bit more time, or you actually want to push, you're not starting from zero you're just putting your foot on the accelerator a little more.

Don't make this sauna mistake...
..that will defeat the purpose of getting in there.

(For those wondering, use a stainless steel one).
