Which one are you? 👇🏻
Most of us have spent our whole lives firmly in the ✨image-focused✨ camp, because that’s what diet culture/the patriarchy/capitalism/etc etc tells us to do. That’s where you’re tying your self-worth to the way you look, and you can’t feel confident if you aren’t looking hottttt.
Then we have body positivity… where many of you probably assume I sit, but I’m actually not that into it (well, today’s version of it anyway - but that’s another story). The catchcry “All bodies are beautiful!” can be heard from this camp, and it’s all about loving your body, no matter what it looks like. But… what if that feels like a reeeeally fkn big ask after a lifetime of hating it? Like, cool concept, but I haven’t looked in a full-length mirror without wincing since 2009, soooo…
Finally, body neutrality offers a different way in - one that actually doesn’t give AF if you think your body is beautiful, because your worth, respect and confidence don’t depend on that. It’s less about “yew I’m gorgeous!” and more about “I respect my body because it’s my meat suit and it allows me to live on this planet”. That’s genuinely all you need - a lil respect, appreciation and yes, sometimes even love - because you’re stuck with this thing, so you may as well make the most of it.
Save this to come back to whenever you’re feeling pulled back to the image-focused life or when you need a lil reality check about where to focus your attention for your body.
And I’m genuinely curious… drop a 1, 2, or 3 in the comments to tell me which one resonates most with where you’re at right now 👇🏻
