Congratulations Jessie on committing to 🫶🏀

As soon as i spoke to their coach i knew this was the right place for you. I spent Lots of late nights speaking with multiple coaches who wanted to offer you some amazing opportunities, and you had to really do some soul searching in making the right decision for your future. Those conversations we had about your future and your choices made me realise how much you have grown up , and how old i have become 😂 🙋🏻‍♂️❤️

“Yes i know carl” 🙄🤷🏻‍♂️

I am very proud of you for showing such maturity and commitment to your journey. I know this will be an incredible opportunity and experience for you, on and off the court , and this will help make you a better person and basketball player i have no doubt.

I told you when you were 11 years old that you would go to college in 🇺🇸 and that you would play for New Zealand. You have worked as hard as any athlete i have ever been privileged to mentor to make those two things become a reality. You should be very proud of yourself.

As always, incredibly proud of you, and excited to see the next chapter in your journey unfold.

Enjoy every second, and keep working hard as you always do. 🫶🏀❤️

Love to see it. 👽 😤

I was watching the game and felt his frustration at his teammates and at himself.

I am one of the most competitive and intense people you will ever meet , but that is because I’m incredibly passionate, and i understand how important it is to take opportunities when they are in front of you.

That might seem small and irrelevant to some people, but you train yourself to seize the moment, step up and perform, and to grab opportunity when its in front of you.

I would not have the life , or be the person i am today if i didn’t learn those lessons in my life through basketball/ sport.

Why have i done so many things in my life ? Because when the opportunity presented itself, and required me to step up and take it , my brain was hard wired to recognise the moment, and conditioned enough to grab it with both hands.

There is nothing more frustrating than to see opportunities lost , and a chance to learn lessons wasted, simply because people around you aren’t focused, paying attention or willing to give everything to grab it.

Thats what sport teaches you - if you allow yourself to be present when the lesson arrives 🫶🫡❤️

Winning is the result. Not the purpose.

The small things are always closer than they seem, not behind you, but right in front of you, waiting to be grabbed with both hands.

Grit. Resilience. Determination. The ability to face adversity, internal and external, that’s where your biggest strengths live.

I say it to every player I coach, no matter the team, age group, or ability level:

“Who we play is irrelevant, if we focus on how we play.”

Because the lessons I’m trying to teach aren’t learned in trophies. They’re learned in how you think, how you compete, and how you respond when it’s hard.

I measure a successful week of coaching by the conversations I get to have (and need to have) with my players. A win or a loss is just the environment. The real work is in learning how to show up, think right, and slowly become the person you’re trying to be.

And more often than not? That work leads to winning anyway.
