Cobram RDA (Riding Develops Abilities)

Cobram RDA (Riding Develops Abilities) Cobram RDA (Riding for the Disabled Association) commenced in 1988. We are currently riding 14 clients, aged from 13 to 44 years.

We have 4 good horses and a band of approximately 18 volunteers.... although only about 12 turn up each ride day! Our ride days are fortnightly Thursdays, commencing at 9.30am till approximately 1.30pm. Our President is Gordon Gannon, he travels from Deniliquin every ride day and brings horses with him. Gordon has been involved with RDA for 10 years and enjoys every aspect of it. Our Secretary/Hea

d Coach is Carol Doherty. She lives locally and has been involved with RDA for 32 years. In that time she has acquired her Level 2 NCAS Coaching credentials and has been our Secretary since 1995. Treasurer is Marj Coulter, she lives locally and was involved in our early days, moved away for some time and has since moved back to Cobram and has been involved for a total of 10 years, she does an amazing job at keeping our books and is an invaluable volunteer! Presently we have one Level 2 & three Level 1 Coaches plus two trainees working on their Level 0 NCAS Coaching.

Can't believe the year is drawing to a close! We only have 2 more rides and it's the Christmas Party (27th November)! Our riders have been progressing, and our sponsors have been forthcoming in helping us! We have a terrific band of volunteers, so enthusiastic! Unfortunately our President Gordon has had an accident and has been in hospital with broken ribs and shoulder! I believe he is coming home in a few days! We wish him a speedy recovery! Our next ride day is the 30th October!

We had our Orientation Day today! It was amazing to catch up with everyone! We have two Centre's sending us new riders for 2024. I found three new potential volunteers on our gmail, gave them all a reply and hope to see them next ride day, which is next week........ Also we have a few enquiries about riding! So it looks like a busy year is ahead of us!

Vale Marj Coulter

We are here to celebrate Marj's life, not her end,
Mother, Nana, Great Nan, relation and friend.
Marj had an incomparable, bold, adventurous spirit,
Her photos and stories meant she could share it.
Her love of horses and people brought her to RDA,
She blended, amused us, in her own exuburant way.
We loved her joyfulness, enthusiasm, sarcasm & wit,
She attacked every job with determination and grit.
Whether it was RDA, Probus, Lions or U3A,
Marj made it known she was doing it her way!
She gave every job, or relationship her best,
Her goal was to be happy and enjoyed a good jest.
She plunged into life with a big open heart,
Determined to prove to all she had a special part.
Then God sent his angels to find someone true,
Her time was running out and somehow she knew.
She faded quickly, which completely surprised us all,
And moved on to a better place when she received the call.
Our love and admiration will never end,
We feel a better person for having known such a friend.

We are back into it this year! At present we have13 riders, which is our maximum considering we have 3 horses and lucky to have 10 volunteers on a given day! However we are working on another horse and I know our volunteers have had some health issues hindering their attendance. Our Coaching numbers have lessened this year too which is a worry. Our riders are enthusiastic, thoroughly enjoy their riding and learning new skills, that is the main thing!

We are planning on starting up again on the 10th March!
