Saturday was a massive day for all four of the guys as well as a lot of blood sweat and tears throughout the week just trying to have all 4 cars ready
Joseph set out to finish the season and farewell the vw golf on a high with 17 entrants and only ten positions paying series points. After starting the day off in the 1:16s and never havenât driven the golf faster than hillclimb speeds he became very comfortable with the way the car reacted under higher speeds and braking loads. After couple of mistakes and moments of trying to be a hero and ending up off of the black stuff he managed to squeeze in a 1:14.51 to come home in the top 10 in p9
Dan came to Symmons Plains exited to finally stretch the legs of the Camry and use its power fully once again. He was very happy with how the day panned out, taking home first in class c with a new pb of (1:15.02). The day was a reminder of why Dan is a part of the team giving his mental health a very healthy lift. Getting wheel to wheel with the rest of the team, helping him to take his mind off other stresses!
It was a day of mixed results for Hammie. Being his first time out on track, Hammies goal was to Shake-down his Pulsar and come to terms with its abilities. He quickly found a groove and improved upon his Session 1 best lap time by 4.2 seconds by the end of Session 2. Unfortunately the Pulsar was parked with an Oil leak following his second run. While a discrepancy in power did lead to him being some time off the rest of the team, it was all in all a very successful first outing!
Nathan isnât much of a circuit guy, but came along to get out on track with the team and had loads of fun! Although nathan admits to seeing red and futilely chasing much faster cars all day, the Lancer proved occasionally and inconsistently quick. Pulling out a 1:14.48 lap felt great, amidst several runs thrown away due to locking up brakes, amateur lines and other skill based issues. Although Nathan finds the best racing to be when youâre alone on track, and preferably on gravel, you just canât beat the camaraderie of laps with the gang.
As always a massive shoutout to Rick Burt at RBMM Vehicle Transport for helping run the cars around and getting some issues sorted for us
And also a big thanks to Sam Speedy Tyres Devonport for staying open late on Friday night to help sort out some alignment woes.
Saturday also saw the welcome of our first ever Otr ambassador Nathan badcock!
Nathan is 29+3 years old from Hobart, Tasmania.
He has been around alot of forms of motorsport for a lot of years, but only in the recent few have really tried to have a crack, with a corolla he ran at Baskerville and Symmons Plains, And more recently Speedway Go-Karts.
We asked Nathan to share a few short words about why his mental health journey and why he chose to support Otr.
âGrowing up over the years i experienced different levels of mental health struggles, started at school age, and peaking around the horrid covid period, in which cars then race tracks, and mates helped me through initially, before meeting the love of my life (ZhanĂ©) and trying/experiencing speedway karts and not looking back.
With that on flowing to help Zhané chase her dreams and helping her with the racing of her Street Stock Falcon.
We have big plans for the 2024/2025 speedway season!â
