Tumut-Batlow Rail Trail Project

Tumut-Batlow Rail Trail Project Our committee was formed to investigate the establishment of a world class walking and cycling track along the rail corridor Tumut to Batlow.

With the continuing success of rail trails throughout Australia and New Zealand, providing economic, social and health benefits to communities in their vicinity, we believe the time is right to explore new opportunities, rail trails being a driver of change and ingenuity, bringing much needed tourist dollars to the region. It is with the above in mind and the emerging focus on rail trail developme

nt in NSW that a group of six like minded Tumut and Batlow citizens decided to form an investigative committee for the express purpose of once again exploring the possibilities of building and commissioning a 32 kilometre Rail Trail, Tumut to Batlow. In forming our committee we specifically sought active members with knowledge of farming practices, and to that end four of the committee have long associations with the land. Our initial role is to investigate the feasibility, and projected cost of building a 32 kilometre rail trail. It is also our desire to have full consultation with landowners along the corridor to better understand personal, and perceived farm centric operational difficulties should a rail trail be constructed.
