Today marked the beginning of something special at knocking boots as we take the first steps toward building a future for KB BUCKERS starting our very first ever breeding program with straws of some amazing bulls and creating opportunities for our boys.
We're not stock contractors ourselves—that's the boys' dream. But while we're able to, we'll do everything we can to help them chase that dream and hopefully one day become stock contractors in their own right.
There is no financial return for us. In fact, it costs a significant amount to keep this dream alive. With no feed on the ground, it currently costs around $1,500 every month just for hay and pellets to keep our bulls fed and healthy.
We regularly travel 16 hours round trip for what could be an 8-second bull ride. People often ask, "Is it worth it?"
My answer is always the same—absolutely.
It's worth it for the smiles on the boys' faces. It's worth it for the lessons they learn, the resilience they build, and the dreams they are chasing. It's worth it for the friendships and lifelong bonds formed along the way.
As a rodeo mum, I'm forever grateful for the incredible community that surrounds this sport. The fellow mums who sit beside me holding their breath during every ride, the families who cheer together through the victories and rally around each other when things don't go to plan. The support, encouragement, and camaraderie are something truly special.
These boys progress through the ranks together—from mini bulls to junior bulls, novice bulls, and beyond. They celebrate each other's successes, support one another through the setbacks, and grow together every step of the way.
We've built a practice pen not just for our own boys, but to support other riders as well. We welcome them to come and practice, learn, improve, and continue pursuing their dreams.
At the end of the day, this journey is about much more than an 8-second ride. It's about community, dedication, hard work, and helping our kids become the best versions of themselves.
And for us, that's worth every kilometre travelled, every early morning, every late night, and every dollar spent.
