What a great afternoon and evening at the Irish Club as we wrapped up our 77th season and celebrated everything that makes Mets such a strong club 💙❤️

With players, families, life members and supporters all in attendance, it was a fantastic way to recognise the contributions both on and off the field throughout the season 👏

NEW LIFE MEMBERS – METROPOLITAN EASTS

A special moment at our Presentation Afternoon on Saturday as we welcomed two new Life Members into the Metropolitan Easts Cricket Club 💙❤️

Congratulations to Darren Koch and Fleur Koch on this incredibly well-deserved honour.

Life Membership is the highest recognition our club can offer — awarded to those who have made a lasting and significant contribution over many years. Both Darren and Fleur have given so much to Mets, on and off the field, and have played a huge role in shaping the club into what it is today.

From playing, mentoring, organising, supporting, and everything in between — their impact has been felt right across the club.

We thank them for their dedication, commitment, and the countless hours they’ve given to Mets.

🏏 THAT’S A WRAP – SEASON 2025/26 🏏

And just like that, the 2025/26 season comes to an end 💙❤️

What a way to finish — a huge Grand Final weekend that saw every field at Captain Cook Oval featuring a Mets side. A special moment for the club and a great reflection of the strength across all grades 👏

From our senior sides to our Women’s program and juniors, it’s been a season full of growth, effort and plenty of great memories both on and off the field.

CHAMPIONS! 💙❤️

What a season from this B Grade side — finishing the year undefeated and capping it off with a dominant Grand Final performance 👏

Winning the toss and batting first, Mets set the tone early. Liam Hackwood led from the front with a composed and patient 68, putting away the bad ball and anchoring the innings beautifully. Skipper Ben Jeffrey provided the perfect support with a crucial 47, helping push the total to a strong 220.

With the ball, the boys were relentless. Enter man of the match Shoeb Harun, who tore through the Souths lineup with a brilliant 5-wicket haul, putting the game firmly in Mets control. Backed up by tight bowling across the board, including Blake Murray’s economical spell, the pressure never lifted.

This group has been something special all season — playing for each other, building strong connections, and delivering results week in, week out. To go through the entire season unbeaten and lift the trophy is a phenomenal achievement.

A massive congratulations to all involved — a premiership well and truly earned 🏆💪

A heartbreaker for our C Grade boys in a game that went right down to the wire.

Batting first on a tricky wicket, the Mets posted a competitive 155, built around a remarkable innings from Kumar Panchel who carried his bat for a determined 68* off 217 balls — a massive effort and one that gave the side every chance.

With the ball, the boys fought hard and stayed in the contest all the way, but were left to rue a few missed opportunities in the field which proved costly in such a tight game, with Wests eventually getting home with 3 wickets in hand.

While the result didn’t fall our way, it’s been a fantastic season for C Grade. A great mix of experienced players leading the way and helping guide our younger guys as they begin their senior cricket journeys — something the club can be really proud of.

Plenty to build on 💙❤️🏏

A tough result for our Women’s side, but an incredible achievement to reach the Grand Final in their inaugural season 💙❤️

Up against a strong Uni/Diggers outfit, the girls faced a big challenge from the outset, with the opposition posting a powerful total. Despite the pressure, our side stuck at it and never took a backward step.

Chasing a large score, Mets showed great intent with the bat, fighting hard to post 145. Lucy Mills led the way with a composed unbeaten 39, as the girls showed plenty of resilience and determination right to the end.

While it wasn’t the result we were hoping for, there is so much to be proud of. To make a Grand Final in their first season is a massive achievement and a sign of what’s to come for this group.

The future is bright for Mets Women’s cricket — and this is only the beginning 💪🏏

Not to be for our Reggie’s boys in a tough finish to what has been a strong season.

After a brilliant effort with the ball to dismiss Diggers for just 89 in the first innings, Mets found themselves in a strong position at 2/42 at stumps on Day 1, with one hand on the trophy.

However, credit to Diggers who came out firing on Day 2, applying relentless pressure with the ball and making scoring difficult. Despite the boys fighting hard, wickets fell at regular intervals and the side was eventually bowled out for 73, falling just short in the end.

It’s a disappointing way to finish after putting ourselves in such a strong position, but there’s no doubt this group has had a season to be proud of. Plenty of character shown all year and a solid platform to build on moving forward.

Then Sunday night… we head to the Irish Club Hotel to (hopefully) celebrate a few premierships the right way 🍻🏆

Congrats to our Open Women’s side Players Morgan Smith and Emmy Cussons on their recent bronze medal and great overall carnivals playing for Darling Downs in the U19 Queensland Female Cricket Champs!

Cricket State Championships 🏏🥉 Congratulations to Year 11 students, Morgan Smith and Emmy Cussons, on their fantastic achievement as part of the Bronze medal winning 15–19 Years Darling Downs Cricket team!

Competing on home turf in Toowoomba, the girls showcased great skill and team spirit throughout the championships. Well done, girls! 👏
