A big thank you to everyone who stopped by the BBQ at yesterday’s Tarago Events Team Markets! 🌭

It was great to see so many familiar faces, have a chat and keep everyone fed throughout the day.

And a special thank you to everyone who patiently waited while our EFTPOS machine decided it had done enough community service for its lifetime 😅 We appreciate those who scrambled for cash, transferred funds and generally helped us make it work!

Thanks as always for supporting the Tarago community. We loved being part of another great market day. ❤️

Hey, we are cooking up a storm at the Tarago Markets, this Saturday, 29 Aug 2026. Come down, grab a great snag sanga or an egg 'n' bacon roll, and stay for a bit of chat about what we have planned for the coming year.

A quick July update on what we’re working on behind the scenes:

🔧 Showground Upgrades
The infrastructure push continues — water tanks, solar/battery expansion, electrical tidy‑up, and hot‑water replacement. RFQs are out and contractors are costing the work. This is the start of the long‑overdue modernisation of the grounds.

👥 Membership & Systems
New membership year is live. Early‑bird adjustments sorted. Merchandise ordering underway. Online membership + payments system is ready so joining is simple and clean.

📘 Governance & Committee Work
We’re tightening processes to match the constitution and building the folio model so decisions move faster and smoother. Not glamorous, but essential.

🎪 Show & Event Planning
Early prep for the 2027 Tarago Show is underway.
Date locked in: Saturday 13 November 2027.
Part of the bicentennial celebrations and the weekend immediately after the Queanbeyan Show.
The catalogue/program is being built now and will be published in time for everyone to prepare properly.

🤝 TSS × TADPAI — Tarago Fete (Nov 2026)
We’re working with TADPAI to deliver the Tarago Fete at the Showgrounds in early November. Planning meetings have started and momentum is good — a proper community day with stalls, food, activities, and a chance to show what the grounds can do when local groups pull together.

👑 Young Country Lady Collaboration
We’re also working with the Bungendore Show Society and the Queanbeyan Show on the Young Country Lady competition. This is a great chance to strengthen ties across the region and give our local entrants a clear pathway through the neighbouring shows. More information on this great opportunity will be coming soon.

🏡 Community Engagement
This FB post is the short version. A fuller July update will go out via email and the Tarago Times.

If you’d like to stay in the loop, get involved, or help out with any of the projects we’ve got moving, reach out or come along to a meeting. And if you’re not a member yet, this is a good time to jump in — it keeps the Society strong and helps us keep building momentum.

Special General Meeting – Date Change

To support maximum attendance across all community events, the Tarago & District Show Society will move the Special General Meeting (SGM) back by one week.

The original date overlapped with the Tarago Sports Association AGM, and we want to ensure that members, volunteers, and the broader community can participate fully in both meetings without conflict.

The new SGM date is:

🗓 Monday 29 July 2026
⏰ 6:30 PM
📍 Tarago Hall

The agenda remains unchanged:

Special Resolution to activate additional Committee positions

Nominations and elections

Member ballot on supporting the CRIF application for essential Showground infrastructure upgrades

General Business

We appreciate everyone’s flexibility. Tarago thrives when our organisations work together, and this adjustment ensures the community can show up strongly for both events.

If you have any questions, feel free to reach out.

Membership Fees Update (President’s Message)

You may be aware that the Tarago Show Society (TSS) Executive held a community meeting last month in the town hall. One of the key items discussed was the need to adjust our membership fees. At that meeting, I raised my concern that under the old fee structure, the Society would not be able to sustain itself financially.

I asked the Executive to review and confirm the logic behind a revised fee structure. Their assessment supported my concern. After considering all feedback, and with the Executive confirming the financial modelling, I have made the decision to implement the new membership fee structure for 2026–27. Please note that the family rate has been discontinued. But we now have Volunteer/Junior (U18) memberships. This brings us into line with other NSW Show Societies.

Membership Fees 2026–27
(Effective 1 July 2026 – 30 June 2027)

Single: $50 + TSS cap or shirt
Couple: $70 + 2 × TSS caps or shirts
Volunteer/Junior (U18): $0 (non‑voting; may purchase TSS merchandise)

For members who have already paid their 2026 fee, the amount will be adjusted to:

$44 for single memberships
$52 for couple memberships to align with the new financial year.

What Membership Now Includes

Effective immediately, all TSS memberships include:

Entry to the Tarago Show, and
TSS merchandise — either a cap or a shirt.

Shirts will be embroidered with the TSS logo, the membership year, and the member’s name. Caps will feature the TSS logo on the front, and your name and membership year embroidered on the back. We expect these items to strengthen identity, boost membership, increase attendance at TSS events, and build camaraderie across the community.

Why the Increase Is Necessary

We acknowledge that this is a significant change. However, the historically low fees have left the Society in a weak financial position. Without this adjustment, the TSS cannot meet essential overheads such as amenities, maintenance, insurance, and other operating costs.

If we do not act now, the future of the Tarago Show would be at risk — something none of us want to see.

“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times…”

I understand that some of the changes we’re making may feel sudden or even a bit drastic right now. We are already having an SGM, I am in the process of planning for an additional SGM in August this year, and membership fee increases amongst other things. That’s fair, but there is a lot that needs to happen. And these steps are necessary to stabilise the Society, strengthen our financial footing, and make sure the Tarago Show not only survives but thrives. Every decision has been made carefully, with consultation, with community input, and with the long-term future of the show firmly in mind.

We now have the foundations complete that will carry us proudly into our bicentennial year in 2027

***UPDATE***

Hi everyone, I have just realised that there was an issue with the original link for the form. This has been fixed and is below. Even though we have already moved with the Membership Fees, we are still keen to receive you feedback and we will post update response and findings as they develop.

Again, apologies for the I.T. glitch (I am sure it wasn't operator error).

Thanks to everyone who showed up last night.
Good questions, good energy, and a lot of honest feedback — exactly what we needed.

We heard strong views on a November show, thoughts on updating the membership fees, ideas for what people want included in the 2027 Show, and plenty of fundraising suggestions we’ll take forward.

If you missed it, the electronic questionnaire from the meeting is now up on our page — feel free to fill it out and have your say.

Our next open community meeting is on 16 September. I will also be sending out a formal notification to the paid members about the SGM on 22 July.
