We did it!
On15 March 2026 the Show Society hosted a Community Day event. It was an affordable family day event. Entry was by gold coin donation and all activities were free.
We had face painting, a magician’s show, pony rides, the much loved petting zoo along with games for the kids. From Braidwood there was a fantastic exhibition by the Braidwood Heavy Horse Association.
This year we brought culture to the day’s events. Our own very talented Tarago Primary School singers performed a number of their own songs accompanied by their music teacher Michael. They were fantastic and I’m sure their parents were extremely proud of their performance and talent. I’m sure we’ll see more of them in years to come.
Attending also was the Hume Conservatory Choir from Goulburn. They sang with passion and enthusiasm and clearly enjoy what they do. They took up the whole shearing shed stage. and daughter Casey from Canberra entertained us with a variety of songs. Both Bec and Casey have performed in stage productions before and were right at home on stage.
Culture also came to Tarago on the day. Published poet and author, Helene Jermolajew from the Queanbeyan Bush Poets enlightened us with tongue in cheek poems that left a smile on your face. Our very own Shirl the girl also paid tribute to poetry and recited several of her much loved poems.
To say it was a great day would be an understatement and there are many individuals, groups and businesses I would like to thank for their support, sponsorship and commitment to the Tarago Show Society.
A big thank you goes out to our major sponsors: Bendigo Community Bank – Bungendore and Braidwood, Veolia and The Loaded Dog. Support also from Stone Dog Meadery, Corang Estate, Riding with Sticks and the Big Merino – thank you.
Special thanks go out to the small number of wonderful people within our local community who stepped up to the plate and provided hours of unpaid work to ensure the Showground was maintained and the day’s events went ahead. Greg, Geoff, Carl B, Leanne and Shirlee THANK YOU for your support and commitment. I would also like to thank David G for marshalling on the day and organizing the Windellema SES’s attendance on the day. A special thanks goes out to Elvis and his Team who ran the Elvis Cafe - something that has become a ritual for many years so thank you for your commitment to the Tarago Show and its efforts.

Bec and daughter Casey - some background:
Casey has been passionate about performing for as long as she can recall, following the legacy established by her mother and grandmother. She has pursued musical theatre training with Perform Australia, participating in junior productions such as The Sound of Music (as Gretl) and High School Musical (as one of the Sharpettes). In the previous year, Casey performed as part of the children’s chorus in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat with Canberra Philharmonic Soci-ety.
She is delighted to present a selection of her favourite songs for today's audience.
Bec began her performance career on Canberra stages at the age of eight and has since appeared in numer-ous musicals.
She received a nomination for a CAT Award for Best Female Lead in a Musical, recognising her role as Julia in The Wedding Singer with Supa Productions in 2009.
Following a decade-long hiatus devoted to raising her two children, Bec is now returning to the stage. She is currently rehearsing with her band Contraband, which will be performing at venues across Canberra in the coming months.
Bec and Casey consider it an honour to perform at the Tarago Show Event for all attendees on the day.

For those that don't know about the history of the Tarago Show:

The Tarago Show was founded in 1956 and is held annually at the Tarago Showground on Braidwood Road. The Show Society has always been focused strongly on presenting a family-friendly event, which displays the skills and abilities of our community members.
The last few years have been full of challenges, with the disruption of Covid, extreme weather events and a changing environment for the committee. We are hoping to see the continued growth of the Tarago Show, with plenty of new and exciting things on the horizon into the future!

Special Thanks
As is always the case with such events, we are thankful to the small number of wonderful people within our local community who stepped up to the plate and provided hours of unpaid work to ensure that Sunday's event goes ahead!
This year presented several new challenges, and as always, a small band of volunteers rallied together to showcase the Tarago Showground. Thanks go to our sponsors/supporters:
Bendigo Community Bank Bungendore/Braidwood, Veolia, The Loaded Dog Hotel, Riding With Sticks, The Big Merino, Corang Estate and Stone Dog Meadery. All have enabled this event to go ahead - so thank you.
Further thanks go to our small band of volunteers who, come hail, rain or shine turn up to monthly meetings, the busy bees ensuring the Showground is maintained. Thanks go to: Greg, Geoff, Carl B, Leanne and Shirlee. A special thanks and acknowledgement goes out to Mark Nelson who very generously provided his time and his earth moving machinery to do much needed work at the Show-ground in preparation for Sunday's event. THANK YOU!
All the best for the remainder of 2026!

Happy Australia Day to you all! I/we hope you all had a great Christmas and New Year and are all fired up for events in 2026.

The Show Society would like to welcome back the Australian Horse Archery Association to the Tarago Showgrounds for another year, along with Rod and Liberty's Riding with Sticks training camp in late March. The Tarago Showground remains available for holding other major events considering coming to the District

Rabbits continue to be problematic at the Showground, however, in February we will commence an Endone eradication program to reduce the numbers. Steps will also be taken to rabbit-proof main structures around the Showground as well as have the large tree stump removed thanks to Mark Nelson.

Many of you may not be aware that late last year Goulburn Mulwaree Council put out an EOI to purchase the land alongside the Showground. As part of that exercise, the Show Society lodged an application to acquire the land in order to provide safe parking facilities to patrons attending the Showground during major events rather than unsafe parking on Goulburn/Braidwood Road. I'm pleased to inform you that, together with GMC and the new land owner Mark Nelson, we will be able to utilise that space for parking during major events. This is considered a win win for the Show Society and the Tarago community.

The Show Society now has a:
• dishwasher thanks to the kind donation from Fran and David. It will come in very handy to users of the Pavilion once it is plumbed in.
• designated phone number for Showground bookings whether it be for overnight camping, use of the pavilion for party and meeting functions. The Show Society's phone number osd 0457 498 613. Bookings can still be made by contacting the Tarago Show''s email address of [email protected]
We still need volunteers to help out with the following events:
• 31 January - Busy Bee at the Showgrounds. If you can spare an hour or two on the day in the morning before the heat of the day we'd love to see you. Maintaining the grounds and its structures to an acceptable level is an ongoing effort but consistently falls on a few people. Your help and support would be greatly appreciated.
• A call went out for volunteers to help with selling raffle tickets at the Loaded Dog on Friday nights during the month of February. Volunteers are still needed. The Loaded Dog makes the month of February available to the Show Society ahead of the Tarago Show which helps the Show Society cover associated costs of running a major event. It's also a great time to catch up with Tarago residents and have a meal. If you can spare an evening to help out on any of the Friday nights during the month of February, we'd love to hear from you.
• The Community Day event is going ahead on 15 March 2026 (refer to attached flyer). We still need volunteers to help out here so if you can help in any way, once again, we'd love to hear from you. More detail on the event will be sent out shortly.
